Worked well for Fluke
I recently moved from the cooler, mountainous region of SC to the warmer climate of middle GA to attend graduate school. I had been using Comfortis for two and half years on my dog, Fluke, without any problems. However, about two weeks ago, I felt a lump on her neck, and upon inspection, I discovered a tick. I began looking all over her body for more of these little pests, and found four more of them. Fortunately, Fluke is a rescue from a vet, and I don't have to bear the burden of expensive vet bills when something like this situation occurs. I was told that the Comfortis does not necessarily guard against ticks, and while it may have been effective in SC, the tick population in the heavily wooded river area in which I live now might be too much for the tablet to protect against for Fluke. I bought this product because it proffered to prevent ticks from attaching to the dog, and thus far, it has proven quite effective. Fluke, as her name suggests, is an unusual 25 pound lab/pit mixture. I purchased the product in the larger size because she is in between the medium and large dosing sizes, and I wanted to be sure that she had adequate protection. Fluke has been her usual happy self since I applied it to her. The directions indicated that you should apply in four to six spots on the dog, and I chose to apply to six, as to not have too high of a concentration in any area. I know that some people have reported having adverse reactions upon applying this product on their dogs, but I have noticed a trend in the reviews: most of the reviews are concerning smaller dogs. It might be that the formula is just too much for a smaller dog, but I'm not anywhere near an expert on the topic, just something that I have noticed. I am of the opinion that what it boils down to is this: all dogs are different, and what works well for one dog does not necessarily work well for others; the same could be said of medications for people, too. I'm just happy to have chosen a product that works well for Fluke. On another note, if you only need flea prevention, Comfortis is amazing, and much less messy than the topical products. While searching for more ticks, I never did find a flea on her! I hope that my review could be of some help, even though it is not very specific. UPDATE AS OF JULY 2013: I have brought home a 4 pound Pomeranian since my original post. I stand by what I stated in my previous post: this product works well for fleas, ticks, and mites in the warmer climate of middle Georgia in which I live. Barnaby, my little Pomeranian, has not had an adverse reaction to this medication, and Fluke, my lab/pit mixture, remains free of fleas and ticks, all the while not exhibiting any negative symptoms. For my little Pomeranian, I applied the medication to 4 separate places along his back, again to not have too high of a concentration in any one area. I purchased the smallest dose currently on the market, and although it was a little high for his small stature, it did not seem to phase him in any sort of negative ways. I wait, at a minimum, 72 hours before bathing my dogs, and I also do not bathe them for at least 5 days prior to application of the medication, as the oils within a dog's skin distribute the topical treatment. My dogs tolerate this medication well, and I have not found a flea or tick on either of them since I began using this product; however, I still will caution potential purchasers of this product: this product may not work well for your dog, just as some medications may not work well for you. Please, before you condemn the product as unsatisfactory, try to determine, and this may require the aid of a veterinarian, what your particular dog requires based upon breed, climate, and tolerance to topical flea prevention. I can only relate that this product works well for my larger dog and also my smaller dog within the area in which we currently live. Again, I hope that my update as to the effects of this product upon my smaller dog is helpful in your search for the right fit for your dog.

Works and no side effects.
Used on both of my dogs, short and long haired. Effective against fleas and ticks. No side effects to my pets. I felt better about a topical vs ingestible preventative.

No more fleas
I have 2 dogs and buy the L and XL size. It works great for both of them. When I first moved into my rental house, I had a flea problem, but since using these and spraying in and around the house, it is under control. Definitely recommend.

Work and nice for the price
I wanted to try something outside of the expensive tablets at the vet and decided to give this a go. The topical cream (comes with 2 portions) is easy to open and squeeze on. Unfortunately, it did make the dog very messy on the top hair for those first 24 hours (dirt and dust coated the top of her in the applied areas). It took awhile for the results to be seen...about a week or so. It seems to dry and kill the ticks after they bite her before really repelling them (after 2 weeks). Three-four weeks later: she still gets ticks but these are much, much fewer and fall off relatively quickly dead. While I love the price and this does work, I'm not sure I'll use it again next summer or not.

It works in Texas!!
If you are in the south you know what the vets say about fleas in our parts being immune to these products and them never being strong enough. I have a pretty bad infestation right now. I tried getting prescription meds but it's been over a year since I brought my pets in so I got denied. This helped kill a lot of fleas my dog had. I was literally combing up to 100 fleas off of them daily until I used this. This weened out the fleas to a select few that are still jumping on them from around our property. Unfortunately my area is still untreated so it didn't completely combat the problem, but a wonderful thing about this product is you can reuse it again after a week if needed, which should be extremely helpful in eliminating them entirely. Compared to Frontline this works wayyyyy better for me in Houston. I like that this helps combat mosquitoes too which we need in this area. I'm not sure how effective against them it actually is though. My dog still barely likes being outside since he always feels like a bug is trying to bite his butt. It also is not really waterproof unfortunately. I should give it four stars because of that, but I'm just happy it's working in my area! But yeah, one reason I have to order more now before I should need it...I have a pool and my dog goes into it multiple times a day sometimes. She obviously rinsed off a lot of the meds because her problem is a lot worse then my other larger dog who rarely swims. It also dries up nicely and not greasy, and my dogs were a lot less sensitive to the smell and application of this compared to Hartz Guard, which left them extremely greasy, even after a few days.

Works Great with my Goldendoodle!
I love Advantix II. It works great for my Goldendoodle. The product always comes packaged properly and on time. He has never had any skin irritations from it and there is no offensive smell. If your dog is experiencing physical complications from using Advantix II, maybe he or she is allergic to one of the ingredients.

Stop the Bite!
Our SAR K9, Zydeco, takes oral medication for fleas and ticks, as well as heartworm. However, these systemic oral medications do NOT deter the insect from biting the dog, thus enabling the spread of disease. So I use this medication to PREVENT ticks from biting and latching on, in hopes of preventing Lyme Disease and other illnesses. Zydeco is a 45lb Australian Cattle Dog mix that is certified for FEMA SAR/HRD K9 certification. We take him camping in tick-infested Missouri, as well as running him through tick-infested woodland, grassland and thick brush. After applying a month ago, we did find a tick after camping at Eisenhower State Park in Missouri. The tick had had several unknown hours to find a juicy spot to sink its pinchers and mouth into for a bloody feast. But no, the tick was still migrating through the fur and easy to remove. Just two months before starting the topical treatment I had found a tick only a few hours after SAR training. This one had dug in deep. After removing and killing the tick, he left behind a large welt and hard knot below the epidermis. After about six weeks the subcutaneous knot slowly resolved and thankfully Zydeco did not display any ill effects. UPDATED 06/30/2023 After using this product for 3 months we have had no ticks ATTACH to our K9. We have found 2-3 around on his skin, but they were either dead, nearly dead or had not bitten him. Our new vet does not sell this product (as it is over-the-counter, I presume). He suggested FRONTLINE Gold for Dogs. No where on the package or their website did it mention REPELLING Ticks, Flies or Mosquitoes. I called the 1-888 # to verify directly from FRONTLINE; indeed it was confirmed that FRONTLINE does NOT repel ticks. It is only effective after they bite, and by that time it’s too late as disease could be transmitted. Needless to say, I will be returning the FRONTLINE Gold and purchasing more ADVANTIX II

Works, but not amazing
It seems to work, but I expected better results. Application was easy and there were no side effects, which I appreciated. However, I didn't notice a huge difference, so I'm still undecided if I would buy it again.
