I then make hot sauce and put it into something else. Most of the fermentation is a salt brine that isn't kept, at least in what I am doing. **Q: Do wide-mouth mason jar lids with rings fit this jar?** A: I don’t think so. The opening looks too big. Mine came with the lid and the little gas escape valve. It worked great last year and in fact, I just filled it today with cabbage from my garden to make sauerkraut. **Q: Is this 1 gal or 64 oz? The images show 64 oz, but the description say 1 gal.** A: These are 1 gallon jars. **Q: What size (diameter) is the hole in the lid?** A: The actual hole is small, about 10mm? There is also a rubber seal that fits into the hole which the syringe fits into. Then the syringe has a relatively airtight seal.
