Does it rotate or roll for a deep massage into the muscle or does it just vibrate?

It does not rotate and it does not vibrate. It is a percussion massager which means the the heads go in and out like hammers or pistons. When you adjust it you are adjusting how fast they move. Faster seems stronger because you get hit more often. In my mind percussion is the only way to go.

How is this one comparing to the Hangsun back massager?

Coincidentally, I have both. and these products are great. The HoMedics massager has heating function which the Hangsun back massager does not have. But when it comes to function, the Hangsun one does the job well too, In view of the different handle design, I think Hangsun back massager would be more flexible. My wife is so happy with this, The Hangsun back massager is worth a try.

Does this have a mild vibration and a strong percussion? I don't like a strong vibration that practically rattles your brain.

It has 3 (or maybe 4 since I usually operate mine at the highest setting, and not 100% sure) different settings for "vibration" the lowest being pretty mild, though I would say it's far from being not noticeable. All settings in my opinion are functional as far as delivering "good vibrations" (pun not intended) I don't think most people would think of the lowest setting as too strong or even too weak. Guess what I'm saying is, I think you will find that this massager will fit the bill in delivering enough massage action for most needs. And considering the Gold Standard for these types of massagers are a few hundred dollars, this one is well worth the money for performance delivered.
