Would this work for thick hair? And also, how shiny is it from 1-10?

Yes, I have really thick and curly hair and it does the trick. I'd say the shine is about a 7 or 8, definitely not a matte finish, but it doesn't look as shellacked as other pomades either.

When applied dried, it turns whitish. Are you supposed to rub it in thoroughly?

I don't recommend applying it dry. What has worked for me is: 1) Rubbing a peanut M&M sized blob into the palm of my hands. 2) Applying a little bit of water, and then rubbing my rubbing my hands together to blend the pomade and water together. 3) Apply to damp (or wetted) hair in steps: work into hair, then rub hands together, then apply to hair, then repeat until worked into hair evenly throughout. This method has helped me prevent from applying too much pomade to one area of hair, and helps apply it more evenly throughout. I hope that makes sense and helps. :-)

How is this compared to Suavecito? Hold/scent wise?

It has more hold than the suavecito firm hold pomade. I just wish they would have a larger tub rather than just a 5 oz. can.
