Miraculous in every way
A very concise and fascinating documentary on the much celebrated icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This documentary manages succesfully to condense within a span of 50 mins the history of the image and the amazing aspects of the cloth and the image imprinted on it.This may come as a surprise to many that the image of OL of Guadalupe is on its own a catechetical tool for the the Aztec Indians of Mexico. Whan the Conquistadors failed to do (viz. to convert the Indians) Our Lady did through this image. It is a pictogram of the tenants of the entire Catholic faith. This film explores the following:1) The apparitions of Our Lady to St. Juan Diego on Tepeyecac hill and the reason for her apparition.2) The quality of the tilma, its structure and function.3) The manner in which Our Lady's image was imprinted on it, taking into consideration the material and body of the tilma.4)The meaning of the image of Our Lady, as it was intepreted by the Aztecs (i.e. the hair, the belt, the patterns of her dress etc.)5) The significance of the colours on the image.6) The stars, what they are, what they mean....and the moon.7) The images seen in the eyes of Our Lady. Who are these people? The scientific view-point as to how the images got there is explored.8) The historical documentation and veracity of the apparitions to St. Juan Diego.and much more! This is an excellent documentary of an image which the Eastern Catholics and Orthodox term 'Not made by hands'.The documentary is in English and Spanish. For further reading on the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe I highly recommend this one: A Handbook on Guadalupe Update: 23rd February 2015 A.D.Another fine documentary that is now available on Guadalupe and which dwells deep into the history of this celebrated image and the ongoing spiritual warfare is The Blood and the Rose

Very informative and inspiring, but overly dramatic music and lackluster narration.
I learned a lot about this mysterious/miraculous event and the people involved. It was wonderful to see so many impassioned interviewees and historical exhibits. But wow, the narrator had to resort to saying "Guada-LOOP"? I mean, come on. Guada-loopay. It ain't rocket science. And the language spoken at the time was Nahuatl, not Nahuati, a clear mis-reading. It's like there was no quality control on the English narration. Still recommended, though, especially if you're interested in religion, spirituality, etc.

Documentary on Guadalupe in English and Spanish
This 52-minute documentary from 2010 explores the story, imagery, and devotional practices surrounding Our Lady of Guadalupe. It starts with good narration and historical recreations depicting the apparition of Mary the mother of Jesus to the poor Amerindian St. Juan Diego in 1550s Mexico. It shows the Roman Catholic basilica dedicated to Guadalupe in Mexico City, interviewing several Mexican Catholic clergymen in addition to scholars of various persuasions. The mysteries surrounding the image itself and its vegetable-fiber canvas are treated in a fairly straightforward scientific manner and the modern devotions to Guadalupe are treated respectfully.Like many Catholic-themed documentaries from Janson Media, it's a fast-moving and high quality program done in a contemporary filmmaking style with digital effects. The main DVD menu simply offers "English" or "Spanish" and starts the film when you click on one. The Spanish version is the native tongue of this disc, while the English version features extremely clear narration and voice dubbing of interviewees in British accents. The English dubbing is unusually strong and clear for a video filmed in Spanish. I've seen a lot of documentaries on religious subjects and this disc is among the best, coming closer in style to current History Channel productions than to low-budget church-produced videos. It's certainly the best documentary on Guadalupe that you will find anywhere, being particularly suited with its two language options for use in any sort of religion class.

Guadalupe The Enigma of the: Living Image
Marian Apparitions can be found throughout Europe but The Lady Of Guadalupe appeared to a humble Indian peasant in 1531 outside Mexico City. The Virgin Mary not only appeared to Juan Diego, her image was placed on his cloak which is still found today in Mexico. A mystery surrounds as to the "tilma's" preservation of colors and materials which have been uncorrupted by time. This particular year, ten years after the conquest of Mexico by the Spanish, proceeded into an "Aztec New Era" related to the alignment of Venus, Earth and the Sun which occurs every 104 years. It is highly interesting a Marian Apparition should appear to an Amerindian after the European slaughter of his people ten years earlier. This event is thought to have lead to the mass conversion of the native people of Mexico to Christianity. The tilma, as the Shroud of Turin, has been studied and analyzed for over 500 years. The star pattern on the cloak of the Virgin is arranged in the constellations of the December 12, 1531 date with the image utilizing the "Golden Ratio" of 1/6.18 in proportionality. Additionally, images of the thirteen individuals who witnessed the apparition are found microscopically in the eyes of the image. I found this video very revealing and I now understand this North American apparition more clearly.

Very good introduction to Guadalupe.
The DVD provides a very good introduction to the story of the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City, although some interesting information is missing. The soundtrack offers a choice of English or Spanish. One minor thing that tended to spoil the DVD was the constant misprounciation in the English version - GuadaLOOP rather than GuadaLOOPAY.
