A solar pump that works in cloudy situations.
This is with out a doubt the best solar fountain we have purchased. So good we purchased two. What stands out is the fact that it continues to pump water in cloudy situations. It is 9.45pm as I am writing this, and although not constant at this time of night, it sporadically let's out a stream of water. For the price I give this water pump 10/10. I definitely would recommend it.

Cheap and cheerful water feature option - won't suit everyone's needs.
This arrives in a sturdy, branded box. The solar panel is a really good size, looks well made and has a really long supply cable that should suit most needs. It has a storage battery built in so that it will continue to run for a (short) while once the sun goes down. Unfortunately this makes using the screw fixings difficult if you want to flat mount it on a fence or wall. I had to screw a piece of wood to our fence to raise it away from the fence so the battery had somewhere to go. The pump is VERY small. It is pretty well made and works well. It can be mounted to the base of your (shallow) pond with suckers or hung underneath the circular float if your pond is too deep for the nozzle to protrude through the water surface. You get a good selection of nozzle options. We got this to make a small water feature in our garden (see 22 second video) We sunk a plastic plant pot in the middle of a large ceramic planter, ran the cable through the base and sealed with silicon sealant. The cable then runs under the pebbles up the fence to the solar panel. We cannot stick the pump to the bottom of the plant pot as it is too deep for the nozzle to protrude, so we used the supplied circular foam float. This works very well but, as the name implies, it does float around and doesn't stay central. I may eventually fit some stiff wires to the float to keep it central. What we found though, if you want to use it for a small water feature like ours, is that any kind of spray or fancy nozzle fires the water out of the tub into the flower bed and rapidly empties the tub. As such we have to use the open nozzle to keep water in the tub. Because it is open there is not enough pressure to give much height to the water jet. For us, this is no big deal. We like the sound of water it creates and it still looks rather pretty in operation. It does take a long time in the morning to start back up. The video shows it still trying to run fully at 10am when there has been daylight for over 5 hours. Though the solar panel is large it's not really that good at collecting and storing power. What is happening in the video is the panel is storing power, the pump is using it and draining it to a point where there is not enough power to run the pump, so it stops. The panel then continues to gather power. This continues for hours until it has a: gathered enough power to keep running or b: the stronger, direct sunlight, hits the panel - in which case it gets up and running pretty quickly. Once direct sunlight fades it quickly depletes the battery and the pump tends to stop before the light totally fades. For us it is an OK option to get a cheap and cheerful water feature in our garden. It scrapes 4 stars for us based on price and ability to set it up almost anywhere.

Does not work not worth the money
Solar fountain does not work properly. It worked for the first day fine after installation. It was becoming very in intermittent after several pressure tests. Everything is fine from installation however the system works intermittently and only comes on every so often for about 5 seconds I would not recommend anyone unless maybe this item is faulty and needs replacement.

Effective fountain
This is much more effective than the one it replaced. Even on heavily overcast days, it operates intermittently. On sunnier days, it works all day. If the sun is strong enough, it will carry on for several hours after the sun goes off the panel. I assume this is because the panel is rated at 6.5 watts, but the pump only uses 2.5. So in full sun the battery charges up, and even when it’s cloudy, there’s enough power to pump some of the time. I did mount it on a pole with a stand to keep the panel at the best angle to the sun. As supplied, there is just a pair of legs to prop it up, which near my pond would have left it overshadowed by nearby plants. The pump is supplied with a foam disc which will support its weight and allow it to float on the pond surface. It’s a cheap but effective way to avoid the problem I had with my old pump, which had to stand on the bottom of a sloping pond, so had to be propped up with stones to stop it fallling over. I’ve only had it a week, so don’t know how long it will last, but so far it looks like good value for money.

Only a few hours after sun it’s down .
I love it it works well , but I though because it had a battery back up it would last at night , very disappointing if I knew that would have gone for something a bit cheaper that would do the job .

Stopped working yesterday.
Ok to start with when bought in May but unfortunately it stopped working yesterday. Not too sure what the issue is, the motor is not working even if the solar panel is in full sun, in or out of the water.

Reasonably priced and gives good value
I've been impressed with this item. If I have a niggle it's that as with many of this type of thing the solar panel doesn't have enough features on the back to make it easily attachable to a fence, post or wall however a little ingenuity can get around that. For best results I'd suggest placing the panel high up and in full sunlight with as little shadow as possible. I've found that the water flow can be intermittent on dull or very cloudy days. Below I've repeated some advice I gave to an Amazon questioner . They asked was the item easily to maintain: Very little maintenance required but I would recommend the following tips. 1) if the water flow slows up or stops check the following: is anything blocking up the filters on the filter box (e.g. garden debris like moss or grass) Or - is the solar panel in too much shadow. 2) The solar panel is pretty good but on cloudy day it may not get enough light to create enough energy so water flow may be intermittent or stop altogether. 3) Given that the natural light is reasonably bright you may find your solar panel works better at different times of the day as the sun moves around. Experiment to find the best spot to place it. 4) Lastly if you use the ornamental filer tops to achieve a 'fountain ' look you will need a fairly wide bowl if you want the water to recycle around . The fountain features rise to anything from 1 to 2 feet and the 'splash' area below is quite wide. I wanted a small water spout so I didn't use any of the special water filters and found this worked perfected for a small water bowl,

It works!
Lovely water features, it works beautiful, the solar panel is big so supplies plenty of sun power. A very Happy customer, & I would consider buying the larger one.

A lot of power for $20.
Although shipping was prompt, my initial order arrived without the float pad. 😕 That's somewhat of an irritant. The second order was shipped just as fast as the initial one. So far I'm impressed with the power of this solar fountain pump though. I don't have any complaints about it. I do hope though that future upgrades will include a means of slowing down the flow similar to electric ones. If one's intent is to use for a birdbath, keep in mind that this fountain pump is best for a wide circumference of at least 2.5 ft or other shape that is as wide to ensure that most of the water lands in the birdbath and not on the ground. This fountain is surprisingly powerful in that it shoots water up almost 3 ft. Unfortunately, unlike electric fountain pumps, the flow amount / speed on this one cannot be adjusted. A couple of days we attempted to use this brand and model in our standard sized birdbath and within 15 minutes there was no more water in it to pump. Buying a less powerful pump is out of the question because unlike this one, they do not convert to battery power after the sun sets and most last for 10,000 hours whereas this one lasts 20,000 hours and at $20 it's a great deal. We've decided to make a wide square bird bath from cement and place it on 4 low concrete pillars that we use for plant/flower pots. It's difficult to find a large birdbath to buy that doesn't cost an arm and and a leg.

Works as a waterfall
We have this product for two years now and it has always been working. Sometimes the streams get a little less powerful, but removing some dirt from the motor will solve this. We do take it out of the water when the winter starts. It keeps working when the sun goes down for at least an hour. And it keeps working when it is gets cloudy. We connected a tube to make the waterfall.
