Great Product!!
Fortunately, I found this product when my previous HCl product was no longer available. The Nutricost Betaine HCl Powder provides much more thorough and complete digestion than I have experienced for years and alleviates the nasty symptoms of incomplete digestion! Yes, the flavor is quite "tangy" when mixed with water, but becomes totally tolerable in time. I always take after having eaten small serving of yogurt mixed with digestive enzymes--definitely works very well for me and I'm totally convinced that my nutritional status has greatly improved!!

Lifesaver!
Betaine HCL literally SAVED my life! I was on a feeding tube where food was being bypassed through my stomach, straight into my small intestine. Everything I ate made me severely sick. The doctors couldn’t figure it out and just kept telling me to take acid reducer medication. They finally did a gastric emptying test, where you have to eat radioactive eggs, to test how long they take to empty from your stomach. It look HOURS. My food was not digesting. I started taking this HCL and I was soon off my feeding tube. My food was finally digesting and I was no longer getting sick. Do you have burping? Acid reflux? Constipation? Nausea? Undigested food in stool? All of these are caused by LOW stomach acid not too HIGH. Like you are told by your doctors.

Do not buy--unless putting in your own capsules.
Do not buy. I didn't know it's harmful to take the powder form. The label says "mix one scoop with 6-10 oz of water". Every Dr I've researched says do not take it in water it can cause harm to your esophagus and destroy your teeth. Only take in capsule form. I didn't take it yet but of course they won't accept returns.

Works as well for digestion as any betaine HCL I've used through the years but. . .
. . . I wish I knew where it was produced. A lot of supplements are made in China these days which gives me the willies! Btw, you must encapsulate this before taking. If you take it straight you'll burn your esophagus and be in a world of hurt!

Might be effective, but NASTY...I mean NASTY tasting.
I'll have to get back concerning the effectiveness, but be forewarned.....it may be labeled as "unflavored," but trust me on this....it is...and it's not good. I have an extremely high tolerance, but this one is so bad that I might not be able to continue with it. I usually buy from Standard Process, but gave this one a try because of the size and economic advantages. If it ain't broke.....Edit: Well, I stopped using this since I discovered - for me anyway - that taking Pearls Prebiotic/Probiotic and Activia yogurt did a fantastic job of helping with my digestive issues. I really cannot offer any evidence on the efficacy of this product since I chose to discontinue use as the taste was so bad.

I'm definitely going to continue buying this.If you have problems with indigestion, gas, or bloating after a meal, this is a total need!I take the recommended 1 gram during or after a meal, and it helps with digestion, preventing bloating and other problems.The entire idea here is that betaine hydrochloride increases stomach acid output, and I can attest to that.It does so without negative effects.The only caveat is: Make sure that you have something to drink it with immediately (or mix it with liquid when consuming it), as this form is strong, and it will burn your tongue if you don't.
