That is another sleeping giant for quality and value. Seriously, 25 years for a “value” disposer! Motor was still fine but the grinding plate rusted out and something broke off then threw it off balance. It was shaking the entire house. I would have just done a direct replacement with another Whirlaway but at 1/2 HP (as a slight upgrade) Whirlaway was a week+ for delivery. That would have been a 3 minute replacement using the existing mount on the sink. I did all the usual searching and reviews and obviously was leaning toward Insinkarator but I also wanted stainless steel this time so no entry level Badger was going to work. Stainless Insinkarators take you up into the $200 minimum range and are no longer compact so also would have required a complete redo of the plumbing to get one to fit. To me, for a disposer that sees minimal usage, that much money + the extra work to install it was a non-starter. The Frigidaire fit the same compact location without any modification to the drains / plumbing, has a stainless grinder, 6+ year warrantee, and runs well. It’s much quieter than the prior one but maybe that’s not a fair statement because I really don’t remember what the other one sounded like 2 decades ago. No, it’s not silent, but you could easily have a conversation while using it without raising your voice.
