If you look at those mics the threaded hole for the mic stand is right next to the XLR port— so close that if you have the mic on the stand you cannot plug in the XLR cable end. This extension is a smaller diameter than most mic stands and extends the mic away from the stand so the cable can be plugged in. The male thread on the extension is the same as most mic stands and the female end then screws onto the mic stand.
