How many pagers will this scan at one time?

Please note this is for the DS-740D (which does double-sided page scans; the DS-640 is not a duplex scanner. It is worth spending the extra $30-$40 bucks for double-sided pages scan feature). It took me a while to figure this out. Yes, it scans multi documents (continuous feed) but you have to feed the sheets one at a time (which is much better than scanning individually. It will add all your scans into 1 document (such as PDF). The previous user answering this question did not give a complete or totally correct answer: yes, you can push the button each time but it is better to feed the documents without pushing the start button every time. Here's how: I do not own Windows so this ***this the instructions for MAC**** (I am sure the software for Windows is probably much easier): - Download the Brother iPrint&Scan app software from their website as well as the scanner driver and install. - Plug in your device to computer. - Open the iPrint&Scan app (software). You will see two options: a "Scan" icon OR the "DS-740D" printer icon. - If you push the "Start button" (on the physical device) you will set all your scan preferences ahead of time under the black printer icon (labeled) DS-740D) on the iPrint software at the "Machine Scan Settings" option. This method is the LONG way for multiple sheets and is best to use for a one-off quick scan (unless you want to push the physical button 100 times for large documents). - If you want to use continuous feed: CLICK the black scanner icon in the iPrint software. a) Click: "All Settings" - go to Feed Control & checkmark "Continuous Scan" (ON) b) Put your first page in the scanner. c) Click the green "SCAN" button (on the software, NOT the start button on the device). After it scans, just keep feeding the scanner. It will keep scanning all the documents. The nice thing about this device is it gently grabs onto your page it senses a new page (this way you don't have to shove it) d) When you are done, click the "Finish" scanning button (that will show in the software window). After this, you will see a preview of your scans/ you can name your file/ choose what format you want to save the docs as/ set PDFs to OCR if needed (a lot of options here). The best part is you can also click the "ADD" button if you want to add more pages. I know this is kinda long but you won't find good instruction on the online manual or from the Brother Support team replying here.

Can I scan 1200 dpi x 1200

The Brother DS640 machine has a Interpolated Scan Resolution (max. dpi) up to 1200 x 1200 dpi and an Optical Scan Resolution (max. dpi) 600 X 600. We recommend you to check all the specifications of the product at our support site.

Is this a good scanner for photos?

The Brother DS-640 scanner is good for scanning photos.

Can this scanner scan to a flash drive or must you go through computer hook up?

The Brother DS640 does not support scanning to USB flash drive and does require a computer for scanning.

DO NOT BUY FOR RECEIPTS ON MAC

I bought DS-640 specifically for its ability to scan receipts up to 72" and compatibility with macos. It was a mistake. This scanner is what's known as "abandonware". Brother's entire software support for it consists of a driver, firmware update and a 2019 version of their iPrint&Scan software. Driver is not an issue, you can just plug it in and use macos' own scanner soft in System Preferences. But as you know macos built in scanner soft only goes up to A4. To scan receipts longer than A4 you need Brother's iPrint&Scan software to work. And that's where things fall apart. It's October 2022 and two years on Brother still haven't released iPrint&Scan that works with Apple Silicon USB port structure. If you're on M1, M1 Pro, M1 Ultra or M2 you're in 99% cases out of luck as these are USB4/Thunderbolt ports. So although firmware update dmg and iPrint&Scan will open on Apple Silicon machines, it won't detect the scanner connected to USB to update or scan anything. You're stuck with macos builtin scanner support and maximum A4 size because Brother just keeps releasing scanners and printers and then abandon any software updates within months...

Su relación calidad - precio es muy buena. Por lo que se paga no se puede exigir más. Es un buen escaner, lo hace a color y con buena resolución. Es un poco incómodo tener que escanear hoja por hoja y no poder tener un alimentador que permita escanear varias hojas al mismo tiempo, pero al final cumple con su función. Es muy ligero, no pesa mucho. Muy practico de transportar y muy fácil de usar. Para trabajos sencillos, muy bueno

Good replacement for my flat bed scanner. Easy to setup (just connect cable) and takes very little space on my desktop. Document feeding takes a bit of practice and can be difficult if the document is not flat.

Assumes that power from your notebook is only located on the left side of the computer. USB is on the right side of the device. Aside from that, it is quick, responsive and the one tap shortcuts to folders on your computer are a dream to set up and operate. Recommended.
