Douxo S3 PYO Medicated Dog Mousse - Bacterial & Yeast Infection Treatment | Chlorhexidine for Dogs; Waterless Shampoo, Antibacterial & Antiseptic, for Dogs Only, Clinically Proven, 5 fl oz

TL;DR: Mousse is fantastic for spot treatments, but for more severe or full body yeast issues, or if your dog is large/has long hair, pair with the douxoS3 pyo shampoo and leave it (shampoo) on a full 10 minutes each bath 3x a week! Use the mousse between baths on trouble areas. -------- This might be long, but bear with me. My dog almost 6 years old and about 2 years ago when we made a cross country move (2000 miles away, so very different part of the country with very different environmental factors) my dog started having allergies. I didn't recognize them as allergies at first because he would just get a rash in his groin. I just thought his skin was sensitive and running through thorns and high brush was irritating him. I could not have been more wrong. Over the last 2 years his allergies have evolved into a systemic issue. To make a very long story short, I put him on a strict and balanced raw diet in attempt to heal the gut around Thanksgiving after much research (spoiler alert, he hasn't been on it long enough yet for that to come to fruition) and about the time I started that I took him to the vet for a round of steroids and antibiotics to clear up his current flare. His flare ups happen in our wet season, and through a process of elimination I have narrowed it down to a mold allergy. The vet told me it wasn't worth the money to do an environmental allergy test because it comes back with all sorts of stuff that you can't really do anything about. So this is all speculation on my part as it's the only thing that makes sense. This past spring in our rainy season and after a winter of super stank, he did a round of steroids and antibiotics and everything cleared up and we had a great summer. I didn't think much of it, all we dealt with was the rash occasionally and the vet put him on a sensitive skin and stomach food which tremendously helped with his sensitive stomach (gas, diarrhea, and vomiting) but did nothing for his skin. Come fall (and the rain) it flared back up again with a vengeance. He smelled like the biggest musty gym sock in the world, it was horrible, and he was itching like crazy. My entire house smelled like a teenagers stinky feet that haven't been washed in months , despite bathing him very frequently at the vets suggestion. When we started bringing wood in for the wood stove it escalated to a point where it was unmanageable with my over the counter remedies (either he is allergic to some of the wood or more likely mold spores brought in on the wood), so I took him back for a other round of steroids and antibiotics, hoping that would get us through winter. No such luck. We weren't even done tapering off of the steroids and the yeast smell came back with a vengeance as well as itchy, goopy, watery eyes. It was SO BAD. We were both miserable. I had just started a raw diet hoping that would help, but it takes several months for the gut to heal and we just didn't have that kind of time while he was miserable. As much as I really hated to do it, I took him in for a cytopoint shot, hoping this would buy us more time until his gut could heal and his immune system could stand a chance at tackling this allergy. Probably counterintuitive but I was grasping at straws. I'm trying to make this short and sweet but believe me when I say for the last 2 years I've tried literally everything to get to the bottom of and remedy this issue. I joined some dog allergy fb groups and heard about douxoS3 SO MANY TIMES I thought it was worth trying out. So I ordered the douxoS3 pyo as well as the calm on the same day I took him in for the shot which was a Friday. I didn't know at the time that I took him in, but the cytopoint shot would do absolutely nothing to decrease the yeast. According to further research I'd done online, the vet should have given us something to tackle the yeast because if they didn't, the yeast wasn't going away on its own. Most of his itching is yeast related. He doesn't itch until the yeast smell gets unbearable. But the allergy evidently causes the skin to be susceptible to yeast. Long story longer, I received the douxoS3 on Monday, and before I picked it up from the post office I called the vet to see if they would prescribe something to help with the yeast. They would not, and recommended I bathe him in an oatmeal shampoo 😑 which I have done for almost a year now. That does absolutely nothing, he smells just as bad within hours of having a very thorough bath as he did before. Thank goodness I had ordered this stuff because the vet was little to no help. We live 1.5 hours from this vet, which is the closest vet to us, so it's not like I have a lot of options. Monday evening when I got home with the douxoS3 I opened it first thing and covered my dog from head to toe in the pyo and prayed for the best. The next morning I could tell the yeast aroma was significantly decreased. This evening, he just smells like the light fragrance of the douxoS3 with a very faint yeasty smell, and that's only if I bury my nose in his fur. I can definitely tell it's working. He's sitting on the couch next to me as I type this and I smell zero yeast. You can usually smell him 10 feet away. He fills whatever room he is in with the smell of dirty gym socks. But not today!!! And this is after ONE application!! I will definitely update this review as things progress, but I won't lie... I was very much NOT expecting to have results this great or this quickly. It's been 24 hours since his first application and things have calmed down significantly and the yeast smell is 95% reduced. Time will tell if the cytopoint keeps the allergies under control, but in my opinion the yeast is worse than the allergy. If I can keep the yeast under control, that's the biggest thing. He's not getting yeast because he scratches himself and damages the skin, the yeast comes first, then the itching. Why he gets the yeast so bad so fast, I don't know, the vet says allergies, but the yeast is our biggest problem for sure. As long as I can keep that under control, the heck with this $175 shot every month or two. I can buy 7 douxoS3 pyo mousse bottles for what I can get one shot that doesn't seem to do much. That to me is a great value. And it brings comfort for both my dog and my nose. As far as the mousse goes, I didn't have a difficult time using it. My dog is 77 pounds and I should have used about 20 pumps according to the bottle but I probably used about 30ish pumps. I did cover him from head to toe, from the poot to the snoot, careful not to get it in his eyes or anything, but I literally slathered him in it. He does have a double coat, so maybe that's why I had to use a little more than recommended. But it held its lather and rubbed in easily. It left his hair crunchy after it dried, but that was easily brushed out. The skin in his groin is usually tacky/sticky feeling (sign of yeast) but it's has been soft and dry today. It's far easier to apply the mousse than to give him a medicated bath 3x a week. I cannot tell you how excited I am that he doesn't smell like a dirty sock AFTER JUST ONE APPLICATION!! I've used numerous medicated shampoos and topical treatments, this is by far the most effective yet. We will continue using it 3x a week for about 3 weeks to hopefully knock this yeast totally out. I will always keep this on hand from now on. And I'll definitely update this review as things progress. This was worth every penny I spent on it, 10/10 definitely recommend if your dog has yeast problems. If this stuff doesn't help, you may have something other than yeast going on. I only wish I'd found it sooner because I have spent SO MUCH money on other things that didn't work or made things worse. I also wanted to mention, the pyo version is for dogs only, but the calm version can be used on dogs and cats. I'm assuming the chlorhexidine in the pyo isn't safe for cats to lick as they groom them selves much more heavily than dogs. So if you are ordering this for a cat, don't go for the pyo, but order the calm instead as it states it's safe for cats. TLDR; This stuff is awesome and 24 hours after the first application we have had major positive results!!! It was worth every penny and I am sad I didn't find it before now! It will be a staple at my house from now on. 10/10!! ------ 1/31/26 edit: Ok long story longer, this mousse DID help some, but I'll tell you more about that in a minute. I had been applying this to my dog's whole body 3x a week, for about 24 hours after application, things would be great, then it was back to the same stinky problem. I reached back out to the vet because I had probably a dozen different medicated shampoos I could use in addition to the mousse and I felt like we weren't getting anywhere. They recommended bpo3, so I ordered that and stopped the pyo mousse (didn't want to overdo it and dry him out). The first time I used the bpo3 it was a disaster, it was like his symptoms got 10x worse. I called the vet back, I wanted to know what the best shampoo to use was because the bpo3 made things worse and was met with "it will just be trial and error". They had never even heard of douxo. The cytopoint shot caused my dog to have some pretty bad gastrointestinal issues too, and I felt like the vet was not really taking anything seriously and just wanting to push the cytopoint, but that wasn't going to solve the yeast problem. I wound up finding another vet to get a 2nd opinion. This vet wound up being absolutely AMAZING and she talked me into doing an allergy test (still waiting on results) because they do immunotherapy (the other vet didn't, and didn't even seem to know much of anything about it) and that would be our key to getting the allergies under control and not just managing itch and constantly fighting yeast, because my dog never itches until the yeast gets bad. He also has watery itchy eyes, was losing hair in multiple places, and his yeast had gotten so bad he was shedding tons and had enough dandruff to cause a blizzard. This vet actually had douxo ON THE SHELF in their clinic. She recommended I try the douxoS3 pyo shampoo and just use the mousse for spot treatment on trouble areas between baths. Reason being, the shampoo is much better and stronger for full body use than the mousse. It penetrates much better than the mousse alone. So I got some of the douxoS3 pyo shampoo and I leave it on him for a full 10 minutes when I bathe him. We have used it twice and I just use the mousse on the spots he has hair loss. I can already tell a remarkable improvement after just 2 baths, he's not itching nearly as much, the dandruff has calmed down and the smell is much improved. So I said all of that to say this ... The mousse most definitely has a place, but if you are fighting yeast over your dogs entire body or in large areas, I very much recommend the pyo shampoo. The mousse is wonderful for smaller trouble spots and for paws since it's hard to get the shampoo to sit for 10 minutes when they are standing in water. If you just need a spot treatment the mousse is your best friend! I am sure we will be using it a lot this summer when his groin rash gets bad from running through the brush. I don't know how much longer I could afford to use the mousse on his whole body, it took a lot, so if your dog is larger, has a lot of hair, or has yeast over the majority of their body, I recommend both the shampoo and the mousse used together. It's pretty expensive, but it's well worth it. Hopefully once we get the yeast under control and get started on immunotherapy we won't have to do baths 3x a week anymore. I will update this review as time goes on, hopefully we keep moving in the right direction!

I have a 60lb shepherd who has been scratching the folds of her neck for YEARS. Vets have scraped.. vets have prescribed.. nothing worked and no issues found. I have also tried over the counter sprays and special baths and they smell weird and/or are messy and also do not work. I suspect it is a slobber related irritation, but at this point after so long of scratching it is a thing and it looks like I abuse my dog. Immediately my dog stopped scratching so much and her fresh scabs and raw skin disappeared within a week. The hair is growing back and I no longer look like I should be turned in to DPS. I also apply it to her undercarriage as she will scratch that sometimes too even though it is not scabby and seems more related to just dirt or environmental irritants. In both spots it goes on easy and the dog comes to me when I bring out the product which she never did for the others. The product isn't greasy like others and seems to be really soothing. It does not feel or smell toxic on your hands. It can make the hair really stiff but a brushing solves that. The only downside is that if you use it on a 60lb dog every other day as recommended it will only last you 2 weeks tops. It is still worth the price, but just be aware that each pump only covers about 3 square inches on a fuzzy dog and 4ish if the hair has been scratched off or it is a less hairy area. I absolutely plan to subscribe and save to this so that I always have it on hand and I look forward to using it each time because I know that it is improving her skin after so long.

My dogs has been having dermatitis on her belly and back legs due to allergies, my vet highly recommended a this! The mousse is easy to apply and lather with a great consistency, has helped with her dry skin, and greatly improved the areas of her skin applied to!

I have a large dog, he's a black lab and rottweiler mix. He's almost 6 years old, and the past couple of years has seen an increase in skin irritation and itching. My poor sweet gentle giant just scratches and bites himself raw. Lots of hot spots. Lots of dry scabby areas on his skin. Back, tail, belly, elbows, behind his ears. We've tried a lot of things. We switched him to a food for healthy skin and coat. We've tried expensive multi vitamins, both over the counter and ones you have to have a subscription for. We've tried adding probiotics and a fish oil blend to his food. We bathe him regularly and rotate a variety of shampoos for allergies, anti-fungal, sensitive skin, etc. Some of these things have helped reduce outbreaks, but no stop them completely. My boy hates any of the spray products. He runs when a spray bottle comes out. I thought he might be more willing to allow me to apply a mousse. The mousse seems to be working! It's been 2 weeks, and I apply the mousse to his problem areas daily. I've also been applying the "Blue Butter" brand of hot spot gel after the mousse. After 2 weeks, my boy's worst problem areas are clearing up and healing. Less itching overall. I'll keep using this mousse! Hopefully after his skin heals I can cut back and just apply a couple of times a week.

Anyone who suffers with an itchy, paw licking, hot spot suffering canine- read on. I have a dog who is seemingly allergic to air. His paws get so bad they bleed when he walks!! And at one point he scratched himself raw on his neck. So, this is a severe case. We have tried everything under the sun. Everything. So, I’d consider myself an expert at this point. Here is my honest review of the Douxo line: Shampoo: this is the best product in the line. I use once a week. Honestly, it works for about 2-3 days, then needs another go. That’s expensive for the small bottle and my big dog. It does remove corn chip odor. I try and leave it on 4-5 minutes in shower, but that can be tough with my dog who doesn't love showers. The smell is nice. It removed dandruff and cleared up his neck. I have considered soaking paws in this nightly, but not sure how that would go. Foam: in between washes we use the foam. This does seem to work- though it is messy to apply. I use mostly on legs, paws, and neck. It does keep down corn chip odor and seems to help redness. It is not a miracle cure. And, it's expensive for the extensive use. It helps, but does not cure/end the paw licking. Wipes: I use this extensively on paws each night. It is more cost affordable than the foam, but not as effective. Still it keeps his paws from bleeding. Does not handle the corn chip smell or stop bleeding- is more of a spot clean up. Now, anyone who deals with this knows this is just the outside. My guy is also on the K-9 probiotics. These seem to give him more energy, regular firm stools, and help his repetitive behavior. He does not mind taste at all. We have added Dogs are Human vitamins. All of this makes it bearable - it has not solved the problem. We are adding collagen next and I will update post if it helps significantly. The BIG PLUS of all of this is he is not on Aquapel, and we do not give him antihistamine daily anymore- which I feel good about. My dog is also OCD and the regimine here seems to have really helped with that. He does not chase lights nearly as much as he used to 8 out of 10 improvement. For all of this, I gave 4 stars because it is the best regimen of everything we have tried (which is everything) and has given him about a 6 out of 10 relief. Hope this helps! Best of luck to you!

This product is hands down the best product we’ve purchased for our Frenchie. He was literally driving us nuts with the paw licking and frito smell and he was obviously uncomfortable as well. We tried the medicated wipes from the vet, we tried other shampoos, creams, ointments, etc. to no avail. He HATES having his feet touched, but after about a week of using this product, he was noticeably not licking as much and the smell had subsided. Now, after a few weeks, he willingly gives me his paws to apply the foam and he fells so much better. The mousse dries quickly, doesn’t smell bad, and doesn’t leave behind any kind of residue or film after applying to his paws. His skin and paws have improved tremendously! Highly recommend and will purchase again!

I typically do not take the time to write a review but I have to for this product. It was a life saver for my pup. He’s had this ongoing horrible rash for months- constant biting and scratching. I thought it was a food allergy. After reading all the great reviews on this, I decided to try it before taking him to the vet. Within a day I saw improvement and within 3 it was completely clear. Amazing product! Saved me a vet bill. Before and after pics.

I use this skin mousse on my pug all the time. He has terrible skin allergies and breaks out with red spots and scaly skin. This really soothes him and cleans all the bacteria off his skin so he heals quickly. Wouldn't be caught without it.
