Nicest and most premium GPS smartwatch out there!
I upgraded to this watch from a Fenix 3 HR and for me it is the perfect upgrade. I was able to sell a couple of my gadgets including my old Fenix 3 HR, which made the price tag on this a little easier for me to stomach...if you have the option to do the same thing and are drawn in by this device's design, definitely do it. The build quality on this thing is impeccable and it really does look like a beautiful high end wrist watch (I catch myself staring at it all the time because it is so nice looking). I have the stainless steel with leather band and I think it's very stylish. The casing is very durable and the sapphire glass gives me peace of mind that I won't scratch the face too easily. One gripe I had about the F3HR was that the bezel was made of PVD coated steel that scratched EXTREMELY easily. The scuffs on the bezel were very obvious because the PVD was dark grey and the scratches would show as a bright silver...this shouldn't be an issue with the Chronos since the casing is bare stainless steel and seems to be a sturdier grade of steel too. The screen resolution is notably better than the Fenix 3, but don't expect miracles...this is still the same reflective color screen that we see on other Garmin devices. The reasoning for this design choice of course is that battery life is substantially better and viewing in sunlight (where this watch is designed to be used outdoors) is amazing. Battery life is less with this than with the Fenix 3, but that's to be expected since they've slimmed down the watch quite a bit. Even still, I have no trouble getting about a week between charges. One change in this watch that I noticed immediately is that the new processor is way snappier than the Fenix 3/HR. There is none of the lag that I used to have when switching between screens. Also, I have to say that the buttons feel very premium and have a wonderful feel to them when you click through the menus. With the hefty price tag, many people may have trouble justifying this purchase, but it's definitely a worthy upgrade and you are getting a very premium device for your money. The included silicone watch band is also very nice and swapping bands for a workout is quick and easy compared to the Fenix 3. I love that I now have the amazing features of my beloved Fenix 3 HR in a rugged but elegant package that I can easily wear to the office or with a suit if needed. Since I wear this 24/7 for fitness tracking, notifications, etc. the improved looks are a welcome addition. This really is a beautiful watch and has the premium design, features, and battery life to put it up against any smart watch on the market right now. If you're considering this watch and want more info, I highly recommend checking out DC Rainmaker's awesome review (I've read his blog for tips on all of my GPS purchases over the years and he does really wonderful and thorough write-ups). Really the only thing that doesn't make this watch a total no-brainer over the Fenix 3/HR is the price tag...if you can justify that or can sell another device to supplement the cost, definitely do it...this watch is Garmin's best yet!

This watch does not reliably track Open Water swims
Sadly this watch does not track open water swims. I have owned a Fenix 3 prior to purchasing the Chronos. The fenix 3 is able to reliably track open water swims. In November 2016 I purchased the Chronos, winter for most but not for me. I completed numerous open water swims all gave erratic swim data.I contacted Garmin and they agreed to send out an advance replacement but I first had to give them a credit card payment which they promised would be returned once I returned the original. After several calls to technical support I finally received the replacement. On taking it for a swim I placed it on my hand along with an Apple Watch. On the other hand I placed a Fenix 3The Fenix 3 and the Apple Watch tracked my swim perfectly but as I suspected the Chronos did not.Interestingly the Apple Watch provided heart rate data without using an external HR monitor.I contacted Garmin and informed them that the replacement did not work. They suggested that I wear the watch in my swim cap. I then asked the agent how would the watch calculate my SWOLF if I wore it in a swim cap, he obviously could not answer.Another battle with technical support ensued, I was finally issued a Return Credit Authorization.Five months after purchasing the Chronos I was finally getting some where.I returned both watches but to my surprise although they acknowledged receipt of both watches they only credited my card (less finance charges etc) for one.I again contacted Garmin to enquire as to why I did not receive full credit for both watches. I was told that the matter was with a supervisor and it would take several weeks to resolve. While the Chronos may look great and it's very well built it does not work as advertised. Garmin knows this. The watch should be recalled. Don't waste your money !

I wanted a watch that looked like a watch
I am revising my review based on information received from Garmin customer support. One of the reasons I am raising my score is because of the excellent information and assistance they provided to help me understand this product better. I am thoroughly impressed and thankful for their excellent customer service! With many friends owning Apple Watches I was intrigued by the concept however put off by the necessity to move your wrist to see the time, and the short battery life. I wanted a watch that looked like a watch, constantly visible, but loaded with the applications and capabilities. The Fenix is big and bulky, kind of tough for someone with skinny wrists like me. It can feel heavy after a while. However, it looks good with the added plus of flexible configuration of the watch face - the hands, look, analog/digital and a variety of data views. I could not figure out how to do a dual time view - the one I have insists on showing UTC as the alternative time. I am very impressed with the battery life - this is one of the strongest points of the watch. Using it fairly frequently I have to charge perhaps once every 4-5 days which is better than my iphone. The step counter appears to correlate reasonably well with other devices such as my iPhone or a Fitbit and shows good consistency. Likewise the heart rate monitor looks to be accurate. The altimeter is accurate if you are outside and hiking or perhaps cycling. If you change altitude suddenly, for example in an elevator, a high speed train or an airplane then it can get confused. I understand the device is designed to be used and hence be most accurate outside so accept the fact that use outside that design parameter stretches its capabilities. To summarize, I enjoy the great look, the versatility and functionality which I am still exploring. As technology progresses I am confident that Garmin will find ways to slim this down and increase the fashion appeal even more. I applaud their creativity and direction, and once again want to give a "thumbs up" for their customer support.

Abbastanza soddisfatto

Superb watch.
A great watch. Had the first fenix about six years ago but the interface has improved immensely. Catches satellites really quickly. The functionality is superb and very customisable. The iq connect store works a treat with some fantastic watch faces and widgets. My watch arrived early and I swapped the leather band for a Garmin stainless steel one. Can dress it up several ways now. Also looks well with the suit. A big change from my old beloved 920 Xt. Delighted with the purchase.
