This game blew me away even though I had high expectations, after hearing all of the hype. A little background, I have played and enjoyed every soulsbourne game (inc Sekiro) and this is the best of all of them brought together in one massive, grand, darkly beautiful and absorbing package. This is open world dark fantasy RPG of the highest order. It is open world the way it is meant to be done quite simply, do yourself a favour and experience one of the top 3 most organic, surprising and genuinely engaging worlds in gaming. It is the antithesis of the glorified accountancy simulators developers like Ubisoft put out. This does not waste your time or leave you feeling unrewarded for exploring. As you begin you are guided towards the first main dungeon however you must level up and find things to have a chance against the first boss. You have the main quest yes but probably 60% of the content is optional and you are free to explore to find complex hours long side quests, unique weapons or abilities to get the bosses (main or side). Speaking of bosses there are so many, incredibly designed ones that are thought through with the best environment and level design. I have spent 70 hours in the lands between at this point nearing the end of my first playthrough and I know I will be back for another round before long. It encourages you to take your time and go off track. I suppose you might not like it if you aren't used to From Software's way of designing games but give it a chance and I think you will discover a gem. Their games respect your intelligence and the gaming experience in an industry with little to no gamer agency or cathartic victories. They aren't just hard they make you earn it and people appreciate that. This is the absolute peak of the genre and of the sub genre and I have a sneaking suspicion that every game I play after this will feel like its standing in the shadow of this crowning achievement.
