Q: Does a standard stick of American butter (1/4 pound) fit well in this? I keep reading about cubes.

No. It does NOT for a regular stick of butter, like the coscto Kirkland signature 1/2 Cup of butter cubes (comes in a box of 4). You have to cut off 2 tablespoons for it to even remotely squish in the tub. Very disappointed. What am I supposed to do with 2 tablespoons of butter per cube floating around. This would have been fantastic if the product actually fit a stick of butter.

Q: Where in the us is this made? also, what type of clay is being used? is it durable?

It is very durable but it is clay so no dropping on tile floor. I think it is made in Ohio or somewhere in midwest. I know the guy who thought it up lives in Idaho and is a very successful business man who was frustrated with the "hard to fill" typical butter bowls. This is an improvement in my opinion. I do not know what type of clay.

Q: How would you compare the butter bay to le creuset butter crock?

I don't know how they compare, so when deciding which to purchase, I went for Butter Bay because it was made in the US. It works wonderfully! We had an incredibly hot summer, and the butter was perfect every day!
