I got this for my 7yr old to learn with. I have found myself using it sometimes and I like it.

Don’t waste your money

I bought the 8wt combo kit even though, reading reviews from other people had me nervous about it being a right hand retrieve only reel. I got a good deal on a return so I went for it. When it got to me it was an unopened return. The reel was set as a right hand retrieve, popped the spool off, and flipped the 1 way bearing over and its a left hand retrieve. Drag seems decent, line and backer was already tied ready to spool. I will update after putting it through torture testing chasing king and coho salmon in lake ontario's tributaries in 2 weeks.

I absolutely love this fly fishing rod and reel combo starter set!I’ve been flyfishing for some time and yes there are much nicer rods, however they will cost you 2 to 3 times the price of this entire set just for the rod.If you live somewhere where you can fish anytime you want or you’re just an avid Flyfisher that’s great. But, for beginners or those who may not get to fish very often I am pretty positive this rod will hold up just fine and a much better deal.I do have to say this though, my two favorite things about this entire set are the storage cases.The fly box is super awesome, waterproof and I like that it’s clear.Most rod and reel cases are usually separate a tube for the rod and a small pouch for the reel. So the fact you’re able to store the lower section of your rod with the reel still attached with this case is perfect.I had no complaints with this set, especially since it is described as a starter set and I most definitely would highly recommend it.
