If you're hungry for more read the prequel story The Last RoninโLost Years and the sequel The Last Ronin IIโRe-Evolution! " Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin is a love letter to the roots of the franchise. Whether you've been a shell head since day one or a newer fan following IDW's ongoing series, The Last Ronin hardcover deserves a spot in your comic collection." โ CBR "It's TMNT by way of The Dark Knight Returns , down to the gritty internal monologues and vaguely cyberpunk aesthetic." โ ComicBook.com "One of the Best Graphic Novels of 2022" โBarnes & Noble Review: Deserves a 6-star rating. A true masterpiece in a sea of faux modern "masterpieces". - TLDR: Do yourself a favor - if you're planning to get this book, stop thinking, and just get it. For maximum enjoyment, go in blind, as in don't search for "last ronin" online, especially on sites like Youtube as you'll be riddled with spoilers in the form of suggested videos. Avoid reading the description of the other Last Ronin books like the "Lost Years". Some genius decided to spoil who the last ronin is in the book's description of "Lost Years"...grr. Even if you're spoiled, or new to the series, I swear you're still going to appreciate the story, it's that darn good. Oh, it's also a perfectly self-contained story presented in its entirety here. (The series does continue in its own multiverse aka Ronin-verse, but I'm not as invested.) Longer version: I'm still in awe that this came out in 2022. Everything in pop culture since 2012-ish has been lazy, and/or lackluster at best, but the critics can't stop celebrating them despite the mediocrity of those "masterpieces". If you're a TMNT fan in any capacity, or a fan of comics at all, this is a necessary read. I grew up with the 80s cartoons, played video games, and absolutely love the 2003 + 2012 animated series. Back to the book, the plot is so powerful and poignant that I was almost in tears toward the end. (That's when I realized this is a timeless piece, a work of art.) I'll be proud to own this impeccable piece on an "ultra-sized" hardcover format a la DC's Absolute/Marvel's Gallery with extras + variant covers if IDW makes it available. Thoughts on the story: Well-done Eastman, Laird, Waltz, and team, you killed it! I read it in one setting ~2 hours, which NEVER happens these days. I've been having attention issues, and I can barely read something for over 45 minutes without getting distracted. To conclude, call it (minor) criticism, or call it nitpick: the main villain could've used a bit more characterization. Build details of this edition: Format: Hardcover. (Oversized; sized like a DC deluxe edition.) Binding: Sewn and sturdy. Made in China. Pages: Thick paper, slightly glossy. Gutter loss: Little to none. Slipcover: None Dust jacket: None Packaging: Usual desertcart shenanigans - meaning getting a book in mint/near mint condition is a miracle. I did return the first copy, because it had many tiny dents, and some nicks. Review: Unbelievably great story. A must read for any type of turtle fan (past or present) - Amazing story. As a child of the 80s and 90s, I was a huge fan of the turtles. I was hesitant about reading this Because I never kept up with the comic books over the years. I feared I would be lost in the context of what has gone on with the story over the years. I finally said screw it and decided to read it regardless. I'm so glad I did. This book can be appreciated by anyone who has just the basic knowledge of who the turtles are. Fantastic read. Will absolutely recommend to anyone who is or ever was a fan of the turtles.

Amazing
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin marks my introduction to the Turtles comics, and it's safe to say I'm hooked. The combination of great art and an engaging story has made this a memorable and enjoyable read. The artwork in The Last Ronin is truly impressive. Each panel is visually captivating, bringing the Turtles and their world to life with vibrant detail. The illustrations enhance the overall reading experience, making it a feast for the eyes. The story itself is a standout feature. The Last Ronin weaves a compelling narrative that kept me eagerly turning pages. The plot is well-crafted, filled with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat. As a newcomer to the Turtles comics, I found the story accessible and thoroughly entertaining. In summary, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin exceeded my expectations as my first Turtles comic. The combination of great art and an engaging story makes it a must-read for both fans and newcomers alike. I'm now looking forward to exploring more of the Turtles' adventures in the comic world

Strong Last Samurai story for the Ninja Turtles
This was a really good read. Itโs very much โTMNT through the lends of the Dark Knight Returnsโ and it never actually overcomes that. Indeed, there are some pretty direct parallels and visual references. Itโs a true ronin story and it fits the character and the world. It does have a distinct feeling of being the โfinalโ original TMNT story. The art is strong and consistent through out. The Old Ronin Turtle looks great. The comic wears its references on its sleeves. Beyond just the DKR stuff, youโll see hints of Old Man Logan, Blade Runner, Escape from New York (a huge influence on this) but also dialogue straight from Lord of the Rings and some visual references to Star Wars. I wanted to like this a little more, or for it to feel a little more special. Perhaps itโs so many comics in the last 20 years have done โDKR for Character Xโ that itโs lost its appeal. However, this is easily one of the strongest iterations of that. Despite being a dark future, it doesnโt feel grim. Itโs s gritty revenge story, but it also has heart. It does rush one little story element with Casey. But itโs got a fun world. Even as someone who loved them as a kid but only cursory checks in on other comics and cartoons, this felt resonate and could slot into any iteration. More comics like this.

a sad BUT fascinating masterpiece
i loved it from beginning to end. but having grown up with the teenage mutant ninja turtles, it was sad to see them go, but at least he had an honorable end and accomplished the lifelong mission he was trained to accomplish, besides, as sad as it was to see them all meet a bloody and painful demise without a happy ending (where peace was accomplished and they got to live out their lives in japan in peace and having sons that carry on their legacy just in case evil were once again to rise up from the shadows after the original four were gone) the story was as fitting and as creative as its end as this is what they were trained for after all, and realistically everything that has a beginning has an end, so farewell tmnt and thank you for all of the childhood memories as i am honored to bid you all a heartfelt farewell with a memorable sigh, and in summation, i say rest in peace, for after all the years of entertainment and childhood memories you have given us, you all deserve your time of immortalization and ergo your final resting spot on the shelves of collectors everywhere where you will rest from your labor with the great ones of old as i will always be thankful that you were all a part of my childhood and therefore a becoming a refreshing part of my childhood memories. anyways, thank you again and rest in peace as you will never be forgotten, i say thee never and a day :-) #HeroesInaHalfShell #MyChildhoodHeroes

Read it before someone ruins it.
This is not TMNT the cartoon show. This is not for little kids. This is the original storyline that inspired everything else. If you are a fan, you have to buy this or at least read it. Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird: Thank you.

I didn't realise this comic was essential reading for me to enjoy my life - but here we are.
It's freakin' fantastic, the story stabs your nostalgia in the heart with this tale about the final Ninja turtle. I couldn't help but consume the entire thing in one sitting, I may have been permanently banned from that cafรฉ, but every scrumptious page was worth it. 10/10 art, 10/10 callbacks, 10/10 new characters, the print job is great though the inner papers are a bit glossier than I'd hope, and a breakup between artstyles in story flashbacks that gives the brain ample breaks between layout sequences to digest the narrative comfortably.

I Cried Over Fictional Turtles. (NO SPOILERS)
I read through this on the very same day it arrived (which if I may add, was on time to the estimated delivery). While some may argue that this is a very dark and depressing comic for the TMNT franchise, which I can't argue with really... I believe the story was very well executed, and this is something I would LOVE to see more of when it comes to the franchise. Acknowledging that being a "hero" isn't as easy or painless as it seems is very important to me in comics and stories like these. The protagonist CAN and WILL get hurt throughout the fights and battles, mentally AND physically. Change happens. Life and death happens. You can't save everyone, you're going to feel pain and regret over the things you witness, maybe even cause. This story told that side incredibly well, and it's definitely something I can appreciate. At times, it did make me want to skim through the text and pages as I felt it went a little slow, but perhaps that was mostly due to my impatience to see what would happen next. Nevertheless, that won't lower my rating on this, because the comic as a whole was way too good for me to rate it any less. It was delivered in one cardboard package, which made me concerned it would arrive in bad shape, but I was happy to see that I received the book in excellent condition. The hardcover design and art looks incredible as well. Yes, I cried going through the last few pages, and I feel no shame over that. This was extremely well done, and you can tell heart and passion was put into it. That is something that deserves my bursting emotions. Genuinely tempted to do an actual video review/essay on this book, because typing this out has made me realize how much I truly have to say about this comic. TLDR: I absolutely recommend giving this comic a read, especially if you're a TMNT fan. HOWEVER, if you're a young fan of the franchise (as I've noticed many nowadays are), or simply not into angsty and emotion-heavy stories, you may want to skip reading this.

Hardcover and hard-core
I love everything about this book. The hardcover, embossed picture at the front, the story, the different artworks all used at the right time and the action. I have been a Turtles fan since they were released as the Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles I'm the UK. I have not like every incarnation of them (the Nickelodeon versions I did not like). I loved the bigger badder more Ninja version of them. I was slightly dissapointed in City at War, when I saw this advertised I though it looked cool but I was dubious. Does this deliver yes it does!!! The war between the Oroku/Foot and Hamato Clans has spanned generations. Now the last surviving member of the Hamato family had come gor revenge on the lady Oroku and his army. It has been 16 years since the Hamato's were decimated. Making the last survivor a Ronin. What happened to his family? Where has he been? Can he do it alone? On a personal not this has always been my faverite Turtle, so I was extra glad he got the spotlight. Though the others also have their moments in the flashbacks. This is has become my all time faverite Turtles story. There are different artists and artwork on display for different parts of the story and they are blended together perfectly. The book starts the a great introduction by Robert Rodriguez, finishes with an awesome afterwards original creater Kevin Eastman, and a full page cover gallery with varient covers. Which era of TMNT fan you are this is must have. I think every character was done justice. I am a happy fan.
