Paddy Griffith’s Wargaming Operation Sealion (1940): The Game that Launched Academic Wargaming: 2 (History of Wargaming Project: Paddy Griffith)

Finally, a look at a provocative but obscure debate about a battle that "never was"
In the early 1970s a bunch of German and British academicians, military personnel, and wargames set out to recreate one of the most provocative battles that never happened: The German Invasion of England in 1940, e.g. Unternehmen SeeLowe (Sea Lion). I am not going to tell you how it turned out, but the results were plausible given the participants faithfully replicated the most probable actions of both defender and attacker. I must say that I was somewhat surprised at the outcome, but the reasons for how things turned out seemed neither contrived or implausible.Maps and photos are somewhat below par, but that does not detract significantly from the book's historical value.Recommended for the specialist and anyone interested in Operation Sea Lion.
