Great tool for cutting out funny shape holes etc.
Great tool for cutting out funny shape holes etc.Low vibration too. Like all Makita stuff - good quality.Make sure you buy the right cutters for it; there is a number of incompatible systems out there!

Absolute beast
I’ve just upgraded from a DTM51 that gave loyal service for ten years, and lives on with a new owner. This one is far superior. Vibration is hugely decreased and it just seems better at everything. The blade swap out process is similar to the older one so don’t expect anything special from the star lock system per se. A non-problem has been solved there. If you want faster, smaller, and less vibration, this beauty is for you. But for those reasons only.

Very good - but watch the O seal by the pin
Quiet, ergonomically comfortable. Was used for a variety of tasks from cutting pipework, wood, stripping woodchip wallpaper off a ceiling and removing floor tiles. Blade switch over was easy - BUT. This was my 2nd DTM52Z after the O seal, on the 1st unit, that sits above the pin warped on the 1st day. The O seal is exposed and it may have been hit with some debris because it had become detached. Makita replaced the unit, but I've been wary of risking any further damage to the o seal since. Hence 3 stars for ease of use. Blades can be expensive, especially made by Bosch. Otherwise it works very well indeed. Recommended but with the above caveat.
