I love this tank so much
I love this tank so much, it's my fourth one. It's well built and attractive. However, the last one I ordered the light didn't work at all. My husband, a retired union electrician, tinkered with it and got it working. One downside is there are two switches, one for the blue and one for the florescent. You can't turn on the blue by itself, it has to come on with the florescent. When my handy husband toyed with it, he hooked it up separate so now I can just have the blue lights on. I don't know if it was wired wrong or if this is the design. Regardless, if I had any other nook or cranny I could fit another one, I would!

Awesome tank, cheap lights.
This review is purely to point out some facts that are next to impossible to find unless you already own one of these, hopefully it will prevent someone from buying it with high hopes only to be let down. First all five stars for the tank itself, it is beautiful and the silicone is perfect and superior to anything I have seen in the price range for the tank by itself. Unfortunately the stand is a let down. While it is well made it is wired poorly for it's intended use. Although they took the time to put the lights on separate switches they wired it so that the blue LED can only be on if the main daylight bulbs are on and they are on the same plug so automation by timers is out of the question. Second problem is none of the lighting is current as far as technology goes and without rewiring it you can not upgrade the current bulbs to something more powerful such as 10k plus output. The LED fixture uses a GU 5.3 bi pin base not a GU 10 or better yet E26/27. So you are stuck with really low power bulbs. That wouldn't have bothered me at all if the compact fluorescents had been more modern but unfortunately the fixture is wired with G23 two pin type base. Although there are a few bulbs that claim to be in the 10k range with this base type I can tell you from experience they are not. All of the high quality compact fluorescent bulbs use a four pin base, either square or straight. Hopefully this info helps someone make a more informed purchase then I did. Perhaps that manufacturer will take notes and upgrade the lighting or at the very least fix the switches so they are independent of one another.

A nice tank minus a couple of issues
There are two out of three lights broken on this unit. The blue light heats up, and proceeds to flash on and off. The long white fluorecent light was completely detached from the ballast, and broken. Other than those issues, I like the tank.
