I do have a theory that those Chinese manufacturers that go to the trouble of maintaining distinct branding are probably making better quality products than the anonymous herd, because they have a brand and a reputation to protect. That seems to be the case with Steelsoft. The packaging and (brief) documentation indicate a cultivated branding. They even have the Steelsoft name embossed on the worm drive mechanism, so this is unlikely to be the cheapest part they could source from all of China. In any case, the clamp strapping kit certainly worked for me and my application, and so far I am very happy with it. I needed to attach a 2x4 timber to a cherry tree in my yard to support bird feeders. Because I have a phobia against driving nails or screws into trees (valid or not), I needed a way to reliably and permanently strap the board to the tree. The Steelsoft hose clamp kit was exactly what I needed, and it took me only a few minutes to install the board (photo attached). The strap and mechanism seem to be well-enough made. I don’t know why this shouldn’t last for years. The strap material is strong stuff and can’t be cut except with metal shears or tin snips (or a rotating tool, like a Dremel). Fortunately I had an old pair in a drawer in my toolbox that I have never used until now. But you will need something to cut the strapping. Review: Going Nuclear on a Flag Mount With Success - I'm reviewing the Steelsoft DIY Hose Clamp Kit. This stuff is great for making a large circular clamp. I used it to strengthen my flag mounts because the strong winds were pulling my mounts out of the tree. Despite lacking any cosmetic appeal to these clamps, I think they will keep my flag mounts attached securely to the tree. Much better than screws. Big flag and/or heavy flag pole and/or heavy winds equals major stress on a flag mount. Before adding these clamps, I had three mounts give way when only screws held the mounts into the tree. See pics for clampage. Are they easy to assemble? For me they were. I read the brief directions, used my bench vice, a Dremel cutoff wheel and a 5/16 hex socket on a ratchet and drill. The clamp band is flexible and will conform to the shape of the object being clamped or strapped. I used one to wrap around a ceramic grill insert that had several cracks in it in order to stabilize it and prevent it from cracking completely. This clamp worked well doing that and I still use the grill. I chose this product because I needed a clamp band that was about 6 feet long since the grill insert is around 24 inches in diameter. This band provided the length needed to go around a circumference of that size. Hope this answers your question. **Q: what is the break strength of these clamps?** A: Don't know the exact break strength. But the material is of good quality. An I absolutely love the being able to custom make clamps the size you want. **Q: Can this be used for Marine boat salt water?** A: Dear Customer, it is made of 304 SS. For salt water, the best choice is 316 SS, but you can spray painting on 304 SS to increase corrosion resistance. **Q: if i used 2 of these to hold 26gal car gas tank would be ok?** A: I just used them to attach signs to posts, but they seem very sturdy and they tighten down firmly. Exceptional Product *by P***L on June 8, 2026* Needed a large clamp to secure a 4" diameter corrugated drain to a pop-up in the yard. Found this product and was very impressed with the quality, durability, versatility and value. I have purchased many clamps over the decades and found this DIY kit to meet or exceed those. The clamp screw hex is 5/16" and I was able to use my 1/4" impact to snug up the clamp, then used a nut driver for final torque.
