How long does the battery last? also can you set a vpn on the device itself?

Wow! You received a bunch of wrong answers. Yes, you can use a VPN. You may need to make sure that VPN passthrough is enabled (It should be on by default) and you may run into some kinks due to T-Mobile 5G network being 100% IPv6. This requires IPV64 translation and that can cause some issues. There are fixes, but I'm not going onto that here. The other thing to note is you can make this Device an OpenVPN server (I use NordVPN) and ALL devices that connect to it will be in the VPN tunnel. You can find this information on page 83 of the user guide. The battery is not as straightforward because the quality of your signal and the tasks you are doing will have a very big impact on that.

If i have t-mobile would i have to pay monthly or is it free?

I use T-Mobile. I think it’s $10/month if you enroll in auto pay.
