Relive the heydays of British War Comics from the 70s & 80s
In the 70s & 80s you could not walk into a newsagent and fail to notice the magazine rack straining under the weight of comics and one genre in particular appealed to me - War. There were a number of war comics to choose from but for me the most exciting and interesting was Battle (late Battle Action Force). The same creative team that also worked on 2000ad was responsible for Battle so it is no surprise that these stories even though they were aimed at children are still readable today. The Best of Battle reprints a number of stories such as Codename Eagle, D Day Dawson and Rat Pack but unfortunately its just a teaser, each story only has one or two parts so you are left wanting more. This seems to be the formula for this current trend of reprints - 2000ad has done this recently with the Best of 2000ad.However overall this is a great trip down memory lane (even though it will leave you wanting more. Have the likes of Pat Mills give a few lines of text introducing the story just adds to the enjoyemnt of such a book.If you read Battle as a kid then buy it, if you did not read Battle as a kid then shame and you but still buy it and see what you missed out on. I also think that even the X Box/Facebook generation of today's kids would enjoy reading something which sadly has gone the way of the dinosaurs (with one exception).

Battle was a classic war comic and it employed some great artists. This book is a good sampling of some of the story and art work that was published in the comic.

This is what I hoped for. Memories from a past era. I spent many a day reading these and in this case I am not disappointed.

Not just nostalgia.
I'm always very wary about buying things for nostalgia value. I have spent a lot of money on DVD cartoons that I loved as a child only to discover that they bored the living daylights out of me as an adult. So I purchased this book with a few warning bulbs flashing overhead. But I didn't need to worry, this book is as good as I remember it. The stories are well crafted and the action is just how I pictured it while I was waiting for the book to arrive. It's amazing how many of the stories I remember, but not just that, certain pictures conjure up all kinds of memories. I remember being ill in bed when I was about ten years old reading Rat Pack. Seeing those stories again brought back all of those old feelings. But it's not just nostalgia, the stories and characters are still good and nearly all of them are films screaming out to be made. Pat Mills and John Wagner to name just two writers, have created something magical all those years ago. It's about time Hollywood came calling and gave us Rat Pack the movie. (Although I know Rat Pack was loosley based on The Dirty Dozen) But buy this book and enjoy. It's not just the great memories it will conjure up, it's great story telling shown through fantastic art work!

There are 18 stories in this book.
A big book, with 18 stories within it's pages. As described by the seller. A few of the pages had creases at the corner, but no tears. Overall, I'm pleased with this book, and am looking forward to reading the stories it has to offer. Good. Thanks.

Brillant Collection
I bought this for my dad for christmas and I just wanted to say how well it was recieved,he has long been a fan of Commando Comics and I bought this as it was similar. He says it is great as it has a all the old favourites in it grouped together by story. From my point of view it is a substantial collection, well printed and bound.I would recommend it if you are in need of a good value gift which is a little different. It has gone down so well that I have had to pre-order Jonny Red !!
