I was a bit leery of whether I'd like this pedal as I've tried some other pricey overdrive's that I wasn't crazy about. I am using this through a 1983 Marshall JCM 800 2203 model and this pedal is the sound I wanted. It's very similar to the Maxon OD808 which I have. But, this pedal has a bit more aggression than the smooth 808. it does cut some bass like the 808 but I remedy that by using a cheap graphic EQ pedal after the Maxon. All you have to do is raise 100hz to 400hz faders about 10dbs and that restores all your bass and then some. It works kind of like a resonance control. The 808x adds a bit more grind and grit than the 808 and importantly adds some "sparkle" to the tone. It sounds awesome. It's really about a 10% difference than the 808 but honestly, that 10% difference in tone is what separates the great amps and tones from the average ones. The result is massive through the JCM 800. i got the idea for this pedal on one of Godlylke's videos where a player was talking about using this pedal through his 800. They really go together perfectly. I also tried the Boss SD-1 but did not like it. I find this one to be nearly perfect for getting the 800 type amps to sound angry yet clear.
