From an experienced portable AC user......this is a very nice unit.
This is a really nice portable AC. It is smaller and more compact than any other 14,000 BTU portable that I've had. Because I've had several portable ACs I am well aware of their limitations. It’s well known that a portable AC will not be as effective as a window or mini-split AC system with the same BTU rating. They are, however, popular for convenience. So, to get the most from your portable it’s very important to keep the exhaust hose as short and straight as possible. (See photos)Here is what I like about this Black+Decker 14,000 BTU portable AC:COMPACT, the smallest 14,000 BTU unit I’ve ever had.FULL WIDTH FAN, I prefer this over the more common offset fan which requires a 90 degree air deflection. Just personal preference from an efficiency standpoint.5.9” EXHAUST HOSE DIAMETER, The bigger, the better. It’s all about getting rid of the heat.STURDY ATTACHMENT OF EXHAUST HOSE TO BACK OF UNIT, will not fall off like so many others. Now, I suspect most users will utilize the included window installation kit and that’s fine. However, for those that cannot easily use a window kit, using a direct through-the-wall exhaust port can be beneficial from an appearance and security perspective. (See photos)If you choose a through-the-wall approach note the following:Your exhaust hose is 5.9” diameter, you’ll need a 6” port so the flexible hose can simply slip inside. Don’t be tempted to use a dryer vent since it’s only 4” and, again, it’s all about easy heat removal.Your through-the wall port should have a weather flap. The one I use has a flap that opens and closes when AC on or off. It has a magnetic seal.Your port should have a bug screen if you care about that sort of thing. I ordered my port with damper/weather flap and a screen. Both are add-ons.Here is the port I use:Bought from LUXURY METALS online. Select “wall vents”. Select “galvanized”. Select 6” size. Add damper and screen. This type of air conditioner can produce some water condensate but it is designed so most of that water will exit with the hot air blowing out your vent hose. Excess water from very humid climates can accumulate in a drainage tray and you can use the included hose to drain it away into a tray or tank of some sort. I don't ever need that because my desert climate has relative humidity in the summer in the 2 - 20 RH range so very little, if any excess water is produced.I highly recommend this portable AC. I just wish Black+Decker had included a user manual (had to call them) and batteries for the remote (no sir sorry, we don’t include batteries)FYI: My bedroom is 13x15 feet. Modern thermopane windows and wall insulation. It's 105F here in the Nevada desert. Bedroom is 68F. Ahhhhhhh !Hope this information helps someone.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Reliable, Quiet, and Perfect for My Toddler’s Room!
This BLACK+DECKER 8,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioner has been an excellent addition to my home. I already own a larger BLACK+DECKER unit that includes both cooling and heating, which I use year-round, and I’ve been so happy with its performance and reliability that I didn’t hesitate to buy this smaller model when I needed extra cooling.⸻❄️ Cooling Performance – Just Right for Smaller RoomsThis unit is cooling a very important space in my home—my daughter’s bedroom. She’s just about a year and a half old, and keeping her room at a consistent, comfortable, and safe temperature is absolutely essential. The 8,000 BTU unit has been perfect for the job. It cools her room quickly and keeps it comfortable without running too loud or creating any cold drafts.Whether it’s during nap time or overnight, the temperature stays even and gentle. As a parent, that peace of mind is huge.⸻🔈 Noise Level – Quiet and ConsistentThis air conditioner runs with a low, steady hum that never feels disruptive. It’s quiet enough for daytime naps and overnight sleep, and it’s much quieter than some window units I’ve used in the past. I was especially impressed that it doesn’t “kick on” with a jarring sound like some cheaper models do.⸻🧰 Setup – Straightforward and QuickThe unit came with a full window kit that was easy to install in a standard-sized window. It took just a few minutes to get it up and running. The built-in wheels make it easy to move if needed, and the digital display and remote control make daily operation simple—even in the dark.⸻🌬️ Reliable Brand – Based on Long-Term ExperienceI’ve been using a larger BLACK+DECKER portable unit (with both cooling and heating) in another part of the house for a few years, and it has been rock-solid. These units are durable, efficient, and easy to maintain. That long-term trust in the brand made this smaller unit an easy choice for my daughter’s room—and it’s lived up to every expectation.⸻✅ Pros:• Great cooling power for small to mid-sized rooms• Very quiet – ideal for babies or light sleepers• Simple setup and easy to use• Portable with remote control and timer• Backed by my long-term experience with BLACK+DECKER❌ Cons:• No heating function in this model (but not needed in our case)• May require drainage in very humid environments (standard for portable A/Cs)⸻🏁 Final Thoughts:This is a dependable, quiet, and effective unit that I trust enough to use in my toddler’s bedroom. It cools her space evenly and keeps it comfortable for sleep, play, and everything in between. If you’re looking for a portable air conditioner that delivers real peace of mind—especially for a child’s room—this is the one to get. Highly recommended!
