Foot pain and injuries can thwart even the most experienced athletes. Foot expert John Vonhof discredits the conventional wisdom of "no pain, no gain," teaching instead how the interplay of anatomy, biomechanics, and footwear can lead to happy or hurting feet. With a focus on individual and team care, this fifth edition covers everything that an active person needs for immediate and long-term foot care solutions. Vonhof's advice comes not only from his own experience but also from many foot experts and endurance athletes. He offers numerous solutions for each problem, as there is no one best solution different treatments work for different feet. This comprehensive resource covers footwear basics, prevention, and treatments along with clear diagrams, photos, and charts that demonstrate techniques and solutions. If it can happen to a foot, it's covered in this book. Review: Full of good information - Plantar fasciitis laid me up for 6 weeks before I bought this book. I am skeptical about "cures in a book". What I found here is a compilation of common sense and collective knowledge regarding the health of your feet. For a runner, foot health is critical. Having read the criticism of this book, I still ordered it. To me searching the web and tying to separate the solid info from the "stuff" is not for me. I am not willing to experiment on myself to save a buck. The author answered questions I had not thought to ask and I would never have found that information on my own. The info in this book has been vetted by the author and his sources. It has helped me establish a plan that has got me running again and that is worth a great deal to me. The bottom line is that I found it useful for more than my PF. If you're looking for an instant cure, it doesn't exist. If you're looking for information and a number of suggestions for both prevention and cure, this book is worth considering. I am back to running with only an echo of the pain that kept me out of my running shoes for over three horrible months. I walk normally now and am able to run to recover a great deal of my condition. Review: Consistent and useful advice - I have Plantar Fasciitis (say "PLAN-ter fash-ee-EYE-tus") for a couple of years now and this book has some consistent and useful advice that is very practical. Although it is the most common form of foot pain it take very long to heal in some instances (6-18 months). This is why I bought the book. It advises you about healing by using proper arch support, never walking barefoot, taping, stretches, massage and occasionally icing and heat...Good stuff! I felt better after a couple weeks following the advice. This problem is only a chapter in the book. There are several foot issues (many that are ailments of athletes) and advice on healing. definitely worth the price and time to read.

I'm a lifelong distance runner who is just getting into ultra-marathons at 40 y/o and this book was a must buy for me. It's well written and a quick read with minimal jargon. Provides 50/50 split of: commonsense reminders and expert scientific/medical recommendations. I found this book to be a must read for any runner regardless experience or age. Price is very affordable for the value of the material returned to your training and racing.

Excellent book with loads of information
Excellent book with loads of information. I am a long distance hiker and I have sweaty feet that easily get blisters. I learned so many things from this book that allowed me to manage all my foot problems to the point that I thru-hiked the 2600 mile PCT without a single blister!!! I've learned to manage blisters, taping my feet like pro, get rid plantar fasciitis and athlete's foot over the last few years all thanks to the knowledge I've gained from this book. Obviously if you have a serious foot problem go see a doctor. But if you use your feet hard and want to know all the tools to try to help your feet, then this is the ultimate resource.

Fantastic book covering absolutely everything that can happen to an athletes foot. Great tips on everything from taping to medical supplies to footwear. Love the writing style and the organization of the book. Written by a guy that has seen it all and drained it all. Was able to built a great (and super cheap!) medical kit I can take with me to races and lots of tips to keep my feet ready for whatever I throw at them.

Great reference with solid guidance!
I bought this book to help trouble shoot a specific problem that happened after getting new running shoes. The book is the experiences of many runners with differing degrees of difficulties and histories. I was able to get some simple sound advice for the immediate problem and have solutions and foresight for other issues. When you run on different surfaces or engage in other demanding activities, your feet are front and center. This guide really helps with practical experience. It is like having a best friend for your feet!

A smart and clearly laid out book detailing all the many issues that can come up for your feet. It is focused around athletes, but I am someone who works on her feet all day/night and have developed some painful conditions. All the DOC said was 3 things...(1) orthotics (2) cortosone shots (3) surgery...Never once did they talk about "healing your feet"...like "healing your body"...the information in here has become my Bible...so interesting and so very effective.....

A Must Read for all Runners
Great advice on how to take care of your feet from an expert. As an ultra runner I have had my share of frustrating feet issues. I have also see really strong runners side lined with stress fractures and p.f. I would love to avoid that! His style is a little patronizing but I didn't mind. He gives great advice on how to protect your feet, how to make them stronger to avoid injury and what to do if you have foot pain.

How useful is this book
This is ggod book for ultra runners but also helpful to amateur runners who do HM and FM and are not regular runners so that they keep recurring foot injuries. How useful is this book ? Well you can judge from the fact that in 14 tears it has run into 5th Edition ; and the 5th Edition itself has 4th printing in 4 years !!! Nothing more remains to be said .

Great book
The absolute bible for anyone who abuses their feet: hikers, runners, dancers, etc. Iโve lent this book to a dozen friends with foot complaints due to over-use, all found something useful in this book.

Must read book for long distance endurance athletes!
Excellent book and must have for any long distance endurance athlete. It teaches about food care that you MUST know before attempting any long distance (5+) runs. It is nice to have for any ironman distance race. And again, it is must read if you have any feet issue while running.

The best
Fabulous book. If you have any problem with your foot maybe you will resolve it with this book (like me). Running is my passion and I know about sport but I have a pain in my heel for a long time. I ordered ,, Fixing my feet``, maybe as my last try, Now, I am running normal. Here you can learn about exact issues and how can you solve them. Author is not trying to be a doctor but most of pains are not cause of serious health problems. This is book for your healthy future. P.S. Sorry about my Tarzan english
