Float doesn't always work
The float only works about 70% of the time. No rhyme or reason. Took another reviewers advise and attached an empty plastic bottle for extra lift. Sad that we have to do this.

Our Plumber Recommended Little Giant
We had our basement flood when our old pump failed, and it was disgusting! Amazon got the new pump to us within 48 hours--in which time we cleaned everything with bleach water and shop vacs...GROSS!Our licensed plumber, Tina, told us about Little Giant sewage injection pumps and why they're her favorite brand. She told me about a sludge pond drainage job for which she and her team used several of these pumps, running non-stop, sucking out solids up to 2", over a 2 week period. None of the Little Giant pumps they used failed, despite getting about a year's worth of what would be considered normal in-home use in just 2 weeks. (Over 336 hours running non-stop!!!) Our disgusting problem is now fixed! This new pump is exceptionally quiet and very efficient, and we're very happy!

"Snap-Action Switch" Does NOT work!
While shopping for a new effluent pump, I debated between the traditional pump with the separate float switch and this pump with the incorporated "Snap-Action Switch". I tried this one because it seemed like a good design idea and it was slightly less expensive. Big mistake! Shortly after install, the pump was not activating and my alarm kept going off. A firm bump on the plumbing and the pump would engage. After doing this a half dozen times, I got sick of it. I removed the sump lid and watched it in action. As the sump filled with water, the float rose until it reached the top of its travel. At that point the switch did not engage and power on the pump. A slight touch of the switch arm and the pump would power on. Without bumping the arm, it would never engage...even if the entire basement flooded. I contacted Franklin, the manufacturer of the pump. Their customer service was good. The technician said that it sounded like the switch was bad. They sent me a replacement pump. I installed the second pump and believed my problem was resolved. NOPE! The second pump did the exact same thing. EXACTLY! I invented a hokey DIY repair. I tied a small empty Gatorade bottle to the float arm to give the float a little more buoyancy. With my repair it is working. I want to go back to the traditional style pump.

Replaced a zoller
Looks great, test pumps great, looks as heavy duty, and a 1/3 of the cost. Still has plastic impeller though. 😏
