I was collecting Petoskey stones the day I took this picture. I was the only one on the beach and had been there so long the seagulls realized I wasn't going to feed them, so they started ignoring me and just did their thing. I love this shot of one landing on the beach with its wings spread out so wide. To create this illustrated photographic print, I carefully and lovingly digitally "painted" it by hand, creating an entirely new image. The tools I use are a Musemee fine point stylus with my Apple iPad and a Wacom Bamboo tablet with my Apple iMac. Each original photograph is completely redrawn by hand - every inch of it. I remove elements in the photograph, re-draw other elements, change the backgrounds by drawing/painting new ones, change colors if I feel like it, and simply make the image what I see in my head.
