Ok, so yeah, you can easily find something similar to this, that can do mostly everything that it does, as well as a whole lot more, for something like thirty bucks. Well, I already knew that before I ordered this laser measuring tool. And I also already knew that I would have to use the app to switch between the front-based mode for free measurement, and the tail-based mode for edge measurement, because one of the pictures said that was the case. Now, I think they should have made this so that you didn't have to use the app to switch between those two measuring modes, but they didn't. And since I already knew that before I ordered this, if I was upset about it then that would be my own fault, lol. But despite that, I still ordered it. And I can't say exactly why either. I think I'm starting to develop a compulsion to obtain as many of HOTO's products as I can. I don't know, they are just very attractive to me for some reason. I think HOTO might even be a part of that very popular Beijing company, Xiaomi, because that's the developer of the Mi Home app that is sometimes used with HOTO products. And speaking of the app, it's actually not half bad. But don't just take my word for it. Because at the time of this review, the Mi Home app on the Google Play Store had 50 million downloads and had an average rating of 4.2 stars from ONE MILLION reviews! Anyway, I wouldn't recommend gifting this to someone, or using it yourself, if it's going to be used as an everyday measuring tool on constructions sites or anything like that. No, this is more meant for use around the house every now and then. Well, that's my opinion at least.

Works well, but the construction seems flimsy. Don't drop this one, it might not survive a 3' fall.

It’s easy to use and read once one establishes how to hold while taking measurements. All is based on the size of your hand and dexterity of your fingers for grip of measurement. Only the user can determine what is the best application for themselves.

Compact and accurate. However it works unpredictably outdoors in sunlight.

Super nice compact measuring tool to have! It works well, it's compact, the battery life isn't bad, and my cat loves the laser. It's not quite accurate enough for very short distances, but for measuring entire rooms, it's super nice, measuring down to the milimeter isn't all too important. Really solid tool, overall! Wish you didn't have to connect to the app for a bunch of the features, but having that all controlled via smartphone brings down the parts cost and keeps it more affordable, so at the end of the day, no complaints.

After using this and reading the instructions carefully, it’s clear this is only a basic laser distance meter. It does not measure along surfaces and the orange “ring” is not a wheel — it doesn’t roll or measure anything. The design makes it look more versatile than it really is. This device only measures from the back of the unit to where the laser hits (wall to wall, wall to object, etc.). That severely limits its usefulness for normal home tasks like measuring rugs, furniture, tables, or items on the floor. For those, a regular tape measure works much better. The instructions are poorly written and don’t clearly explain these limitations. With only one button and vague directions, it’s confusing at first and easy to misunderstand what the product can actually do. If you only need occasional room measurements, it may be fine. But if you’re looking for a general-purpose measuring tool, this isn’t it. The design and marketing are misleading. I’m returning the item.

I’m quite impressed with this little device. I put a quarter in the picture for scale. It is easy to use. I scanned the QR in the box and installed the app. Connected it via Bluetooth quickly and easily to my phone. There’s one button on the side that you push once to start the measurement and then push a second time to record the measurement. The bad: the screen is kinda fuzzy as you can see in the photo. That’s it. The good: I just measured this room I’m in with a tape measure and also this device. It’s spot on and really accurate. This is going to save me lots of time when I need to measure a property I’m listing. Mine came set up for feet and inches. Not sure about the other reviews that say it lists in fractions or decimal points. That’s not the case with the one I got. Very happy and I recommend this for anyone looking for a small and easy to use laser measurement device.
