Wonderful album which marks the third time I’ve bought it. Crystal clear pressing, high quality vinyl, beautiful presentation. The CDs are a nice added touch for listening in the car. This is by far my favorite version of the album that I own.

Awesome AlbumThe Buena Vista Social Club was a members club in Havana, Cuba that held dances and musical activities, becoming a popular location for musicians to meet and play during the 1940s. In the 1990s, nearly 50 years after the club was closed, it inspired a recording made by Cuban musician Juan de Marcos González and American guitarist Ry Cooder with traditional Cuban musicians, some of whom were veterans who had performed at the club during the height of its popularity.The recording, named Buena Vista Social Club after the Havana institution, became an international success, and the ensemble was encouraged to perform with a full line-up in Amsterdam in 1998. German director Wim Wenders captured the performance on film, followed by a second concert in Carnegie Hall, New York City for a documentary that included interviews with the musicians conducted in Havana. Wenders's film, also called Buena Vista Social Club, was released to critical acclaim, receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary feature and winning numerous accolades including Best Documentary at the European Film Awards.The success of both the album and film sparked a revival of international interest in traditional Cuban music and Latin American music in general. Some of the Cuban performers later released well-received solo albums and recorded collaborations with international stars from different musical genres. The "Buena Vista Social Club" name became an umbrella term to describe these performances and releases, and has been likened to a brand label that encapsulates Cuba's "musical golden age" between the 1930s and 1950s. The new success was fleeting for the most recognizable artists in the ensemble: Compay Segundo, Rubén González, and Ibrahim Ferrer, who died at the ages of ninety-five, eighty-four, and seventy-eight respectively; Segundo and González in 2003, then Ferrer in 2005.

I can't believe the clarity and detail you get with the edition. I normally am not impressed enough to leave a review, but this set is unbelievable! The separation and detail is astounding! Wow... just wow!

I cannot begin to express how much I LOVE this album! Ah, the song Chan Chan is magical and makes me happy! We were lucky to visit Havana, Cuba two months ago and I made of point to visit the gravesite of Ibrahim Ferrer, one of the principal musicians here! I'll tell you a cute story- I'm at the Colon cemetery in Havana, the most beautiful cemetery that I've ever been to! It's filled with glorious monuments and true works of art and was trying to find his grave. A man that spoke no English was trying to show me some of the best headstones there for a tip. I said 'Ibrahim Ferrer' He looked puzzled, so I said 'Musician', he said 'Grammy' I said 'Si'! And with that, we ran to his grave! Since I have played this CD a million times, I know the songs- even that I do not know what the words mean, yet I was able to join a street band and sing Chan Chan with them- a dream come true!! Ry Cooder, you are a longtime favorite musician of mine- 'Paradise and Lunch' is in my top five favorite albums of all time, and you really outdid yourself with this collection! Thank you!

Llega muy bien empacado, protegido. Todo inicia al destaparlo: un libro enorme con litografias de Cuba y fotos de antaño. La primer página es el disco I... Hay que ponerlo para seguir descubriendo el resto del regalo. La música con calidad increible (grabado en vinil de 180g en la Republica Checa).Las fotos, los materiales, los textos (en inglés) son sobresalientes.Hay que comerse las historias de principio a fin. Verlo, disfrutarlo, con el acompañamiento de fondo de esta compilación.Ya habia tenido yo contacto con el DVD, y lo tengo. Pero el vinil es INCOMPARABLE.EXCELENTEDe ser un regalo para un melómano, será increible. Solo de conocedores y no otros no tanto.

Sou fã de longa data, e ouvir Buena Vista em vinil é uma experiência ímpar, pela qualidade do disco e das músicas em si. A percussão é demais. A versão de "Orgullecida" nas Bonus Track é sensacional, parece que estou dentro do estúdio. O livro que vem junto é uma diversão à parte.

Das Album "Buena Vista Social Club" ist legendär und gehört zweifellos zu den Meisterwerken der Musikgeschichte. Die Musik ist einfach fantastisch und ich kann nicht genug davon bekommen. Der Megarabatt, den ich für die CD erhalten habe, war unglaublich - nur etwa 3 Euro für ein Album von solch hoher Qualität ist ein Schnäppchen.Die CD läuft bei mir rauf und runter, denn die Songs sind einfach zeitlos und immer wieder ein Genuss anzuhören. Die Klangqualität ist auf CD meiner Meinung nach auch besser als beim Streamen, was das Hörerlebnis nochmals steigert. Ich würde diesem Album gerne 10 von 5 Sternen geben, wenn das möglich wäre, denn es ist einfach großartig. Wer diese Musik noch nicht gehört hat, verpasst definitiv etwas!
