Digitally re-mastered and expanded edition of this 1970 album from the band formed by the songwriting/production team of Chris Arnold, David Martin and Geoff Morrow. The trio wrote some classic tracks over the years including 'Can't Smile Without You' for Barry Manilow and songs for artists such as Billy Fury, Cliff Richard, Cilla Black, and Edison Lighthouse to Elvis Presley. In 1970, having enjoyed considerable songwriting and production success via their AMMO production company, they formed Butterscotch and had an immediate UK Top 20 hit single with 'Don't You Know' which spent 11 weeks in the charts. Now available for the first time on CD, the Don't You Know It's Butterscotch includes seven additional tracks that were originally only released as singles. Angel Air. 2011.

Like, I think
I bought the original vinyl album for 50p inmy local Woolco store's deletions rack back in around 1973.It came factory sealed and included a complete songbook for the album, not just the lyrics but the "dots" as well.I sold it 2 or 3 years later at a considerable profit as it didn't really grab me,not enough rock ,too slick, maybe only 2 or 3 tracks that were played with any regularity.Like, I think, most people my attitude to stuff that doesn't have wailing guitars, thumping bass and a chest-beating singer has softened over the decades. I've taken out the cassette recording I made before I sold the album a few times over the last decade and regretted selling the vinyl.I can now appreciate the craft that goes into producing this sort of record and the music itself has now got a nostalgic appeal. So when I saw the Angel Air CD version complete with bonus tracks for a decent price on Amazon I took the plunge and you know what,It's a decent album .The bonus tracks are worthwhile having and I only have 2 gripes ,one that the version of their only UK hit " Don't You Know" is faded in and faded out earlier than the 45 version. The sleeve notes give the reasoning behind this which probably seemed like a Wizard wheeze to the band at the time, and the other is that "Cows" is still one of the worst songs I've ever heard.Interesting that the booklet goes into some depth about the inclusion of the hit single in it's album form and it's omission from the track list on the front of the sleeve only featuring on the back which may have had an adverse effect on sales. My vinyl copy did not have "Don't You Know" listed anywhere and the track was not on the record itself.

Don't you know they were one hit wonders...
I write this with a heavy heart - I was that excited when I found out about a Butterscotch CD being available.Almost 40 years ago my uncle Brian gave a load of 45s he was clearing out. Amongst the Norman Greenbaum and Dave Berry was "Don't You Know (she said hello)" by Butterscotch. I liked it the first time I heard it and grew to love both it and The Closer to You on the flip side over the years and to this day I still give it an annual dusting down on my turntable. Such a summery song - even the bright RCA sun shiney orange record label seems happy! Even my partner knows all the lyrics now despite not even being born when it was released. When I found out about this CD I knew I had to have it - what other 3 minute masterpieces could this group be capable of? Well, sadly not a lot as it turns out - there's nothing here that comes remotely close to reaching the heights of that old, what I always thought to be double a sided single. However, there's more cheese on offer here than in a packet of Cathedral mature! Also, as pointed out in another review, it's not the single version of Don't You Know on the CD and sadly the CD mix doesn't seem to have the "magic" of vinyl single despite clearly being ripped from vinyl itself (even with all the clicks and pops). In all honesty I really wish I hadn't found out about this CD - that way I'd always have been left thinking that Butterscotch must've been some amazing band that slipped through the net based on my brief acquaintance via the perfect "DYK(SSH)" RCA single. Now I think I just got lucky hitting Butterscotch gold the first and only time with that single all those years ago.:¬(Sometimes you really never should go back

Don't You Know It's Not The Full Version.
The reason I have not giving the Butterscotch CD five stars, is that the version of "Don't You Know" featured here is the album version which fades before the end. I still have the original single which has some nice harmonies as the song fades, which are cut. They could have least included the single version on here. That aside, yes this is sunshine pop, easy on the ear melodies pleasantly sung. Thankfully the B sides are included, I always thought "The Closer to You" could have been an A side. Of the album tracks "Cows" stands out for me, a very catchy but bizarre track complete with Mooos!! Another gem is Office Girl, which contains the memorableline, "I could be the one you think about, while your doing all your typing out." This is an album to put a smile on your face, even though it contains some pure corn.
