Is it 100% spot on to what's shown on screen 100% of the time? probably not - EXCEPT if you're in a pitch black room. This is due to the camera picking up any light reflecting off the screen. My camera is installed below the screen so any daylight or lounge lighting will give my white ceiling a slight orange hue, which because of the angle of the camera is whaqt it can see. If it was top mounted, then in a similiar way, it would pick up the light off the tv cabinet below the TV. I was a bit confused as to why the LEDs weren't turned off at first when nothing was on screen, but then realised I could see it was picking up this colour by angling my head up from where the camera points (and can be seen when aligning the camera from the app) so the camera picks this up when the screen is black, so the LEDs don't turn off, but show this colour from behind the TV. For me, this really isn't offensive at all. It keeps up with scene changes and when there is content on screen it mimics it incredibly well. If you want a cinema experience then at night, or blackout blinds shut, then it really does SING. I've tried all the youtube ambilight demo videos and it looks immense. Flashes of lightning or colour orbs going across the screen, it follows it all incredibly well. This bit of kit is such ridiculously good value for what it does. - And even if you don't want the ever changing lights, the control over setting the individual sections to a paticular 'still' colour is fantastic. - I've got a kind of sunrise going on, with bright yellow/orange in the lower centre of the screen, going into oranges and red, before a sky blue at the top. It looks stunning. Without the camera or impressively good 'ambilight features' just this control and brightness/vividness of the LEDs is worth the cost of this item alone. Highly recommend! Review: Works surprisingly well - Having used fixed colour LEDs behind my previous TV, I was keen to try this product on my new TV. Installation of the LED strips is straightforward and the adhesive seems strong, so hopefully everything will stay in place. It's worth taking a bit of time to plan exactly where the LED strips should be placed and where cables are best routed. The control module also sticks to the rear of the TV using adhesive pads. The only issues I had were that the lead to the mains power adapter is a bit short so I can't currently route the lead where I'd like. Also, the camera fixing method needs a rethink by the manufacturer. Again self adhesive pads are used to fix the camera either at the top or bottom of the screen. However, many current flat panel TVs have very thin screens (mine is about 3mm) so the adhesive has very little to stick to, and any movement of the camera results in odd lighting effects as the calibration becomes incorrect. It would be useful if the manufacturer offered a few fixing options (or even a stand mount) for the camera. All that aside, once you've set the smartphone App up and turned the LED brightness down from 100% to a sensible level, you get a very nice effect that compliments the image on the screen. The LEDs respond quickly to changing scenes and the colour matching is very good. All in all, it is a worthwhile addition to your TV, just be prepared to spend a bit of time setting it up properly and possibly a bit of problem solving with fixing the camera. Quick update - I gave up trying to use the self adhesive pad to try to stick the camera to the edge of the screen. Govees alternative is super easy to set up, but each strip has to take up one side of your TV. That means if its too long for your TV you need to stick down the start and end of the led strip and just have the excess bunched up in little loops. Unsightly but you won't see that as its behind your television. You can put the camera on the bottom of the TV, I have, as there is an option in the govee home app to allow for that although any lights you have that reflect off your TV screen will affect the backlighting as it will read that colour as on screen colour. In movie mode this is pretty good, its not perfect but its good enough that it does make a difference and does add a sense of depth and immersion. You can turn it on or off with google assistant or Alexa and it has different modes although I have only tried movie and game mode. Game mode reacts much quicker to colour changes but has a very irritating flicker whereas movie mode reacts slower but smoother. If you use these two modes remember to also choose the part option, not full, in its settings page when using the app as part will react to changes and allow different LEDs to show different colours on different sides whereas the full option only shows a single colour at a time all around the screen. If it was a tenner cheaper I would say this was a steal, as it is this is still a good option although feels a small amount overpriced.
