Silverhead: Expanded Edition

Glam Rock Classic
This rare “Silverhead” CD is representative of the 70s glam rockers at their peak. Frontman-vocalist, Michael Des Barres, Nigel Harrison, bass; Pete Thompson, keyboards and drums; Stevie Forest, guitar and vocals and Robbie Blunt, guitar, collectively epitomize the eight-track era of heavy riffs and androgynous sensuality. Technically-speaking the CD mirrors the original vinyl in audio quality- no sweetener added; one might argue none was required. The package includes bonus tracks.

GREAT OLD SCHOOL 70S HARD ROCK...............................
this new expaned edition of this classic album sounds great and has a much better booklet with liner notes from malcom dome and interviews with nigel harrison as well as other members of silverhead, silverhead where at the top of there game on the uk glam scene and they where right where they where supposed to be when this was released in 1972 LONDON UK but sadly the only market that seemed to really embrace silverhead was japan, they did well in the uk and europe but japan was there biggest market until they split after the live album in 1975. anyway this is a rough sounding record with some great guitar solos and not much glitter at all in there sound, the glitter was in there look, outside of that i would call this a hard rock album with a great typical 70s sound to it, i think what this album lacked was catchy songs and that is why it did not take off as much as other albums from this era and genre did at this time, over all i have always felt this was a very good album and any hard rock fan or i should say any old school hard rock fan will really like this disc, this upgraded issue is all you need regarding this release.

Mysterious Ways
The fact about this band has not matched the whole success they really deserved (to fans like me and probably you) maybe can be explained by the period they brought themselves to light, I mean, a transitional time for rock'n'roll. Sometimes I think that Glam Rock perished in reason of has been smashed between the Prog Rock and the Hard one. Besides it, there also were too many glam "primma donnas" struggling hard for the best places under the strobes (Jagger, Bowie, Bolan) when Des Barres came out. A remarkable point is that there were some others great UK bands that, amazingly, have not glittered so much during that particular age - from beggining to the middle of 70's. Babe Ruth is other good example that comes to my mind.At least five songs of this album are very good: Rolling With My Baby, Johnny, Ace Supreme, Rock And Roll Band and Long Legged Lisa. Des Barres was an excellent rock singer, and the band was really great.

Silverhead!
Make no mistake about it. This is the real deal. Car exhaust vocals, raunchy guitar riffs, hand-clap boogie beats. It's all here. Michael Des Barres is a rock god. We can forgive his later acting endeavors because he has contributed immeasurebly to the rock n roll pantheon of all-time-great rock star singers. Ian Gillan, Paul Rodgers, Robert Plant have nothing on this guy. "Rolling with my Baby" is probably one of the greatest rock n roll songs of all time and it is only a matter of time before some brave soul stands up on VH1 "Lists" and declares it so. Are there any takers?

silverhead
One of the original u.k garage, glitter bands, the band worked hard but never quite got the recognition they truly deserved. This album represents their early live set that was always tight and includes some good songs. Couldnt get radio airplay but great live band. Truly one of the uk bands that should have but didnt make it.

A friend with excellent taste alerted me to this band headed by actor-singer {and Marquis!} Michael Des Barres, and I'm so glad he did. I hadn't even heard of them before, yet this beauty dates from as far back as 1972, when I was a mere stripling of 21. How I missed them I'll never know. The opener Long Legged Lisa is a terrific taster for what proves to be a superb rock record that has barely dated. It occasionally has a aura of Bolanesque glam about it, but otherwise it's straight ahead, slightly grungy rock all the way.Des Barres can really sing too, with power and feeling ~ have a listen to the slower songs Johnny and Wounded Heart ~ and the band play with a fine sense of what each song needs to work. There are three bonus live tracks, two alternative versions, and one b-side on this 2016 reissue, plus a full booklet with notes, photos, track listings, etc. This is one 'lost' album you may well want to discover for yourself, especially if you appreciate good honest rock music played with passion and panache.Recommended!
