Best book I have read all year.
I gained knowledge and understanding. Recommended to a friend who reacted in same way. Gentle story, simply told. Important and on a higher level than many other stories of father-son relationship. I will certainly read it again.

One of my favorite books of 2020
I think any writer who can brilliantly wrap personal philosophy and memoir around natural history is a gift to readers. There are several very fine books out there about eels which do this and this stands shoulder to shoulder with the others.

Interesting
This book opened my eyes to the subject of Eels. It does it in a way that is both scientific and spiritual. It left me in a warm way of feeling and touched as no other book has touched me in a long time.

Brilliant, brilliant book
This book is wonderful- part memoir, part commentary of the European eel, it blends science, history, religion, politics and philosophy and connects the eel with Thanksgiving, the IRA and Freud.Absolutely fascinating.

Everything there is to know about eels
A fantastic book....highly recommended for anyone with interest in biology. It has so much information packed in just over 200 pages. Also has an emotional side where the author writes about his family.
