Just check, before you purchase it, that you are sure you want a book in indecipherable Scots jibberish. This ain't written in English, folks, and you'll have to do your best Rab C Nesbitt impersonation as you read it to even figure out what the storyline is meant to be.

Itchy Coo Publications never fails to disappoint.Another Julia Donaldson book which is far better in Scots than in English.The rhythm of the rhymes flow better in this book compared to the English version and has much more character. I particularly like the verse about the bridies and bannocks.These books only get bad reviews from people who have a misconception of Scots, mixing up the language with dialects. Or people who are totally unfamiliar with Scots and blaming the book for being uncomprehensible for some reason. I've even seen bad reviews because people thought they had bought the English versions!I've bought all the Julia Donaldson books in English for my 2 year old son and currently buying the Scots versions too; I hope they bring out more Dundonian versions after 'The Gruffalo'.My son seems to enjoy the Scots stories better and always asks for those versions instead.I highly recommend these books to any Scottish children who love Julia Donaldson stories.

It’s quite a challenging read even for a Scots speaker but my youngest absolutely loves the stories in Scots and they’ve learned new words they’ve added to their daily vocab.It’s written with a mixture of Scots dialectsBorrowing words from different parts of the country. We love it

Obviously, i did not read the advert thoroughly and the book arrived but in raw Scottish. Thankfully, being Scottish, i could translate the main parts but my family loves the Scottish pronunciations as well as the story. So, be careful what you order but definitely order as the story is tipically genius.

Scottish dialect version of the Highway Rat by Julia Donaldson. It went down a storm and my Mum thoroughly enjoyed reading it to her little granddaughters. What fun to keep Scottish brogue alive and share it with the younger generation.
