One More Saturday Night 3 Disc set Limited to 16,500 individually numbered copies Mastered to HDCD specs by Jeffrey Norman Digipak made of 100% recycled and PCW materials Release Date: February 1, 2016 when the Grateful Dead hit the workingman's town of Fresno, California on July 19, 1974, they were undeterred by the blazing heat and inspired by the enormous "thundering machinery" they'd brought along. With the Wall of Sound, they felt they'd reached a whole new level of symbiosis. Can you hear what they heard on that fateful night? Find out when you reach the upper realms of auditory bliss with this "essential for any tape library." Witness Jerry breaking new ground with a spectacularly different take on "Scarlet Begonias." Follow Phil and keyboardist Ned Lagin into the future of electronic music with their "Seastones" set and orbit into deep space during the 30-minute "Playing In The Band." Prefer to listen with both feet on the ground? The second set will bring you back to earth and still have you dancing with a plethora of pleasers like "Brown-eyed Women," "He's Gone," and "U.S. Blues," rounded out with the band's one and only "Spanish Jam." Plucked from the Grateful Dead's original tapes and mastered to HDCD specs by Jeffrey Norman, Dave's Picks Volume 17 is, indeed, limited to 16,500 individually numbered copies. another wall of sound show from 1974
this is the 4th show released from 1974 in the dave's picks series. it took awhile longer to sell out over on the dead site, and a fan may be wondering why ? more likely than not, it should be attributed to a 50th hangover rather than a knock on the release. with the big box, 30 tats, weighing in at around $600 and all the fare thee well releases put out to celebrate last summer and more coming this year, i can only imagine some fans feeling a little light in the wallet .. that said,, the dave's picks series solders on with this fine show from fresno california .... highlights are a large, hot ' playing in the band' clocking in around 30 minutes is a great addition to any fans collection and the disc 3 'weather report suite>jam>eyes of the world' is an interesting second set jam that certainly gets abstract in the middle but is a great example of the band using, w.r.s., as a jam vehicle,, which was common in 74. some fans may not like it, but fans of the wall of sound era will enjoy the uniqueness of the experiment for what it is ::: another chapter in the ever changing grateful dead sound and a keeper version from 74 ... . there is also a rare official 'seastones' included here if that's important to you, you will like that. as usual in this series the sound is clear and well done. so if your in the market to grab another good wall of sound show, this is for you ... another fine release to start the 5th. year of the dave's picks series....

classic wall of sound era Grateful D!
Typical 74 setlist. Formy money, one of the best Playin in the Band ever officially released. Really grate Weather report/Let it Grow also. Seastones, Phil and crazy a $$ Ned Lagin's experimental toure de force also makes a rare appearance in this set. 1974 has a lot of dope Gd shows which is why crazy a $$ Dave Lemieux keeps tapping into them glorius wall of sound era soundboards everytime he's comin out w the new Dp

Superb Show with Great Scarlet Begonias and Third Disc!
It has an almost pulse like feel to it and the sound is easy on the ears. Great show by the Dead and a nice Scarlet Begonias and the third disc is superb and in my belief, the reason to buy this release in the first place and the Weather Report Suite and Jam have a hypnotic and atmospheric pattern to them. Scarlet Begonias sounds like the pulse and thump of a heart beat and sounds gorgeous and entertaining.
