I obtained copies of every pilot training textbook published, and reviewed each for accuracy, relevance, and teaching methods. ASA's Pilot's Manual series was clearly the overall best. Some others have good aspects, but some other textbooks have outright incorrect information in them. This book is part of a pair with the "Ground School" volume. This book mainly covers the aircraft maneuvers—what is referred to as the "stick and rudder flying" part of your training. The other volume covers the "headwork" part (performance, weather, planning, etc). When you get this book, you may be somewhat overwhelmed by its size. Don't be. This book covers both the private and commercial certificates, has lots of full-page illustrations and white space, and is printed on good-quality, heavy paper. The book is organized simply: each flight maneuver/task is a chapter. Review the maneuvers planned for each flight lesson before flying. Along with this book and the "Ground School" volume, buy a personal copy of the aircraft's Pilot's Operating Handbook (POH)—often, they are sold as "Pilot's Information Manuals" by the aircraft manufacturer and pilot shops.
