Amazon Grocery, California Walnuts Halves and Pieces, 16 ounce (Pack of 2)

Late night shopping on Amazon - saw this product and thought, "Yum, walnuts - gotta have...", so I bought them. Got them, and was about to write a scathing review about being disappointed by the flavor - nuts didn't have that crisp crunch, and didn't have that fresh, toasty flavor that I craved. Fired up my browser, came to Amazon, flame on! Found the product page and re-read the description and saw, "We've kept this bag unroasted and unsalted to let the walnuts' rich, sweet flavor stand out.". Went to the kitchen, dumped the bag onto a cookie sheet, and put it in the convection oven. 10 minutes later, pulled the tray out, grabbed a walnut (ouch, ouch, ouch!) and ate it - walnut bliss! Nice and crunchy, roasted toasty walnutty flavor - exactly what I was looking for! So, went from a potential 2 star rating up to 5 stars - good product! Now, all I have to do is keep myself from sitting down and munching my way through the remainder of my order...

Taste very fresh! I love these walnuts and will be buying again. Flavorful and fresh. A lot of halves also.

The product met my expectation and will buy it again

I generally like Happy Belly products as they are value for money, mostly. These walnut halves, however, I bought at the regular price and based on that, I would say that these are decent but on the expensive side. Here are some pros and cons worth mentioning: Pros: 1. The walnuts are of high quality and freshness, and they are packed securely to ensure they arrive in good condition. 2. The packaging is resealable, which helps to maintain freshness and prevent the nuts from going stale. 3. The walnuts are versatile and can be used in various recipes, such as salads, baked goods, and as a snack. Cons: 1. Some pieces have blackish color and feel stale, I would say 5% max of total are like that. 2. The price may be slightly higher compared to other brands of walnuts. 3. The freshness and flavor is not consistent. Overall, it is a decent product that offers good quality and versatility. However, there are some concerns about the freshness and quality of the nuts, which may affect customer satisfaction. I would also recommend on waiting for sale and discounts on this, which is generally often.

Update Tried again Oct 2022, bought 2x 2 1lb packs, 4 pounds Expiration date Sept 2023 All four are rancid. ~ Just received these. Far ahead expiration date but they are very distinctly rancid. I'm used to getting rancid seeds and nuts at the discount aisle of Walmart, but pretty surprised to get this from Amazon which usually has better quality. The expiration date is 11 months in the future, so these were packaged after becoming rancid. Notice in the description it says "Happy Belly Walnuts feature a rich, sweet flavor balanced with a hint of bitterness from the edible papery skin" so it kind of looks like they know there is something wrong with the batches they use for "Happy Belly" and leave that bitter skin on to cover the rancidity. From Wikipedia "Walnuts, like other tree nuts, must be processed and stored properly. Poor storage makes walnuts susceptible to insect and fungal mold infestations; the latter produces aflatoxin – a potent carcinogen. A batch which contains mold-infested walnuts should be entirely discarded." Bought two '2 packs' in this order and it occurred to me that maybe the most rancid lots are sent to people who order multiple quantities, so that the spoiled inventory can be dumped but the number of negative reviews will be lower, since a person who gets two unedible lots can only leave one review.

Been buying for a while, add to salad, love them

I’m not a lover of plain walnuts and am eating them as a heart healthy snack in an attempt to counteract the less healthful chips etc. of which I’m so fond. Having said (or rather, written) that I don’t love walnuts plain, I find them to be truly delicious when sprinkled with whatever seasoning strikes my fancy at the moment. I put my desired walnut portion in a baggie, sprinkle the nuts with whatever spice or other enhancement I’m in the mood for, close the bag and shake vigorously. The spice or other ingredient gets into all of the walnut’s nooks and crannies. I’ve used sazon, chili lime, my beloved Sabatino Truffle Zest & Cheese, and grated Parmesan and Romano. They’ve all been good, but the sazon and chili lime are my faves so far. More walnut culinary adventures await.
