What is the size across the top? Room to put carrots and potatoes around the roast, added later in the day. Don't want veg. on top of meat. Thank you!

I believe it's 13 inches I could not find my tape measure. When I use the pot I have plenty of room to add vegetables. I am guessing if you had a big piece of meat that would make a difference Is the same size as the one that I had to dispose of. And I liked the size of it and used it for years and so far this new one seems to work out fine.

Is this oven proof or not? Difference of opinions

yes, absolutely yes. i baked an andouille and chicken jambalaya with this in the oven at 350 degrees with the lid on. worked perfectly fine. i wouldnt use it in the oven above 350 degrees, but you shouldnt fear using it in the oven. i bought this dutch oven for $30.01, and if something happened to it i wouldnt hesitate to spend $40 to buy another.

Is the bottom sturdy enough to stay flat for ceramic topped stoves?

The bottom is sturdy, but not completely flat. It turns when you stir. Not sure if that may be just the one I got.

Is it good for cooking meat in bones?

Yes. It is a sturdy and versatile cookware set good for just about everything. However the largest size isn’t huge so be aware of the dimensions.
