Seemingly good bird deterrent
Seems to do a pretty good job of keeping the birds off of our deck. Tied them between the rail spindles with a little spin laxity so they didn't bang around in the wind. They still fly close, but not onto the deck anymore.

Low-Tech way to Discourage Birds
I live on Maui - and have a nice lanai that overlooks our yard, and the ocean. We get a lot of Mina Birds, Doves and Egrets that love to land on the railing and, well, leave their mark.... lots of it. All over everything. Since we are next to the ocean, sprays and other chemicals are not advised. I bought these and have hung them on the railings and gutters. When the sun is hitting them and there is at least a very slight breeze, these are about 90-95% effective. Early morning when the sun isn't hitting them, they are about 25% effective. They are definitely noticeable - my neighbor commented on my "unicorn trophy collection" but they aren't horrible. Light weight, easy to install. I wonder how long the rubber bands will last in the hot Lahaina sun, but I suspect I can easily replace. These are plastic so hopefully they will last longer than the metal ones I purchased previously that rusted extremely quickly. Overall satisfied.

Not Great for Woodpeckers
We bought these in hopes of deterring woodpeckers from our wood sided house however it doesn’t seem to stop them. It might be keeping them from making even more holes however they still make on average 1-2 new holes a day. These are easy to hang and we have had no issues with the product itself. They just don’t work how we were hoping they would.

Don't work!
We hung these all over our house where the woodpeckers were pecking. It deterred them for a couple weeks, then they came back again. Today, on a walk through my neighborhood, I heard a woodpecker and it didn't sound like it was pecking a tree. Once I spotted it, I laughed out loud because it was pecking 4 inches from one of these scare rods. What you will probably have to end up doing is changing your exterior to hardy board or something of the like or painting it a color that woodpeckers will not mistake for wood. I've heard balloons will work too...if you're up for that. Another neighbor dealt with woodpecker damage until she painted her house white. These aren't your answer!

They work!
We ordered these in the beginning of summer hoping they would help keep the birds away from our pool. We hung them on the fencing surrounding the pool - probably every 3rd "space". My husband did not think they would work, but he tried them for me. To our surprise, they work!! The birds do not like the reflectors spinning or shining. Every now and then there is a brave sparrow who lands on the solar cover, but he quickly leaves as soon as there is any movement. It is now the middle of July and the string for the spinners is starting to dry out and break from the sun/wind. Easy solution? Buy more - they are cheap. Or like us, we went to the JoAnn store near us and bought stretchable elastic string. Restrung all of them and hung them back out. Should last the rest of the season. We highly recommend these!!

Small birds don't care.
They do not have any effect on smaller birds. I just had a Dove whack one out of the way to sit on a wire.

Works perfectly to scare Woodpeckers
I just built a new house and a woodpecker decided to peck my cypress columns. I purchased these to detour them. I haven’t had any come back. The shinny keeps them away. The spinning it makes scares them.Great investment.
