I am in a week 5g area and use external antenners, and on the odd occation i get a 5G signal but only get 56 to 70Mbps down but and I say BUT if you do 4g only i end up with (sometimes) 220 - 240 Mbps this is with EE again in a lowish area but My antenners are quite large.. Mostly it between 120 and 160Mbps and 40-60upload on average. The only niggly thing which i am not sure if its the router or ee is that I have to reset it on a daily basis ( you can set it manually to do thisd) to keep a decent signal.. other than that, I used to have a mr600 v2 which gave me a max of 88Mbps and I though that was good :) Would I recomend it. For 4G OH yes most defenatly, for 5G well seeing as I don't have a very good 5G signal thats a dificult one but I am sure if I did have a 5G signal it would not dissapoint.

Hi all. My experience.. In General it's a huge amount of money for a terrible service. Start with the initialization. You Cannot just pop a sim card in as it says and have Internet. You have to get the settings from your provider in my case talk talk. I ended having nearly two hours on the phone helpline I managed to find in Google to a women on the Philippines. We did after nearly two hours get it running. .. a hard test for even the most persistent people. Then the next problems are it loses signal. Sometimes its bars and then it might shut down the world light goes out and you have to turn it on and off again. This is bad when u want to use It 5am and have to get out of bed to go downstairs to reset it. The download speeds are good 100mb and up..... But the catch is the ping is horrendous. My sons just had a 2000 ping. The upload speeds are just hopelessly bad. Many times I can't get 1mb on WiFi and 3mb on cat 7 cable. Honestly it has no WiFi 6. It's a nightmare and they say you can connect 128 users? Not a chance. I'm going to have to return it as its a £229 mistake. It's just not fit for purpose. It's ok if you are desperate but if u can use a landline do that.

This has worked fairly well for me. I am using an external antenna. But I do think it would be worth spending more on a better quality router. With my setup I have 3 bars of 5G signal, but I am only getting between 30-100mbps download speed. It usually sits at about 50mbps. So no better than 4G speeds, although I am in a poor area for signal.

Disappointed with this item. I expected more. 5G signal when available was excellent and stable but the idea of a mobile router implies that it should switch between 5G and 4G seamlessly. Unfortunately this did not work on the item which just 'crashed'. I returned it for a refund.

Some very basic knowlwdge of router setup will be required but step by step instrcutions are available. The router boosted my reception by 50% compared to my old tp-link router. I haven't yet managed to capture the 5G signal but I am moving the external antenna onto the chimney breast in the next few weeks and I can't wait to see the reaults. Currently I get 70mbs with this router vs 19-20mbs on my old router. Really pleased with these results and worth every penny

I live in a semi-rural area just outside of London with no FTTP available to me. I have a top-tier Vodafone 5G mobile internet subscription. The local 5G mast is approx 1 mile away and I have line-of-sight to it from my house. I also have an external 5G antenna pointing directly at the mast, connected to the router's MIMO inputs with some pretty tough cables. Everything should be set up perfectly for a stable and fast mobile internet. I've used D-Link products quite extensively in the past (mainly network switched) and had no problems, so although this router looks 'dated' I trusted the brand. It was fairly cheap compared other routers at the time and I thought I could balance reliability and price with the D-Link. What a mistake. I've owned it for 2 months and had nothing but trouble. Like other reviews here, I'm seeing drop-outs, weak 4-and-5G signal (even with my external antenna!), no 5G signal at all when using the router's own 5G antennas, frequent freezes, etc. The feature set is appalling for any modern router: * No static DHCP reservation * No support for security standards above WPA2 (even my iPhone keeps warning me that the network's security is weak) * No client list page, just a small pane on the router's admin panel homepage * No option to install a VPN * In-built 'speedtest' feature doesn't work - it always says "failed". The feature has been removed from recent documentation updates but it's still in the router's menu * No firmware updates available (apart from a minor patch version a long time ago) * The router body is huge, top-heavy, and cannot be wall-mounted * The 4 ethernet ports are in the most awful position, and the stand doesn't have cut-outs for the cable. So you have to decide between passing the cable under the stand and un-balancing the entire router until it falls on its face, or bending your cable into an unnatural 90-degree shape so you can still keep the router upright * System log doesn’t log anything useful at all, and it appears to get wiped when the router is rebooted As for specific problems with mine: * The 5G light doesn't light up on the front hardware panel, even though the admin page tells me I have a signal * It drops the connection so frequently, I've had to set it to reboot early every morning * It often freezes while my wife and I are both on conference calls * One weekend it had such awful performance I went into the admin panel to try debugging, and I saw a whole load of garbled data pre-filled in the WAN connection parameters form * The admin panel stops responding from time-to-time * Even with my external antenna pointing at a mast close-by, the strongest 5G signal I can get is "3 bars" at -105dbm * Sometimes it doesn't recover from its daily scheduled reboot and it sits with its lights off like an expensive white plastic brick until I hard-reboot it by pulling the plug. It 'bricked' itself again this morning and I've had enough, which is why I've come back to leave this review. I'm now outside of the Amazon return window so I don't even know if I'll be able to get my money back. I'm so desperate for a reliable router that I've ordered a TP-Link to arrive today. The D-Link will probably sit gathering dust in my garage for several years as a monument to a costly mistake, until enough time has passed that I don't feel shame and anxiety any more (and that my wife has forgotten about how much money I spent on it), and I can take it to the dump.

Have had this product 2 weeks and for the cost expected much better. The signal drops regularly . Phone connection is very poor. Registered through customer service as I wanted a link to upgrade the firmware. You tube suggest this may improve the problems I am experiencing . Cannot find this product on their product list. The site will not recognise or accept my S/N number. And reports the pages have moved or are being changed. What has happened to customer service . Companies just take your money and run . This is not a cheap item to buy and does not appear to have anyway of upgrading the firmware . Which renders it almost useless from day one. As the version it comes with is about 6 years old already. Highly unsatisfactory

Le dernier routeur 5G de chez D-Link, un appareil imposant avec de bonnes finitions et des antennes d'excellente qualité. Malheureusement trop cher pour ce qu'il propose, la partie logicielle est une horreur et mérite des mises à jour. L'interface manque cruellement d'options et les temps de chargement sont extrêmement longs. Beaucoup de coupures vu qu'il est impossible de forcer une bande précise, je passe de la 5G à la 4G toutes les 30 minutes. Très déçu des débits que ce soit en fausse 5G Free 700MHz ou en 4G à 600 mètres de l'antenne à la campagne. Le reboot du routeur via l'interface bug complètement et coupe toute connexion wifi ou ethernet, redémarrage à la main obligatoire. Service après-vente D-Link incompétent, qui ne fait que répéter ce qu'on trouve dans la FAQ du site sans jamais donner de réponse concrète. Pour 500€ je ne recommande pas cet appareil, la partie logicielle est trop jeune et aucune info sur les futures mises à jour. Mon B715s quatre fois moins cher est bien plus aboutis, performant et configurable facilement avec des logiciels dédiés.

Wer in einer ländlichen Gegend wohnt, nur LTE-Band 20 (B20) empfängt und eine Außenantenne nutzt, kennt das Problem bei 5G-Routern unter 200 €: Fast alle Modelle leiten das LTE-Signal stur auf die internen Antennen um und nutzen die Außenanschlüsse nur für 5G. Der D-Link DWR-978 5G ist hier die absolute Ausnahme und ein echter Geheimtipp! Obwohl das Modell schon etwas älter ist, empfängt er absolut alles – auch das B20-Band – zuverlässig über die externen Ports. Er tut in Sachen Empfang genau das, was er soll, und holt das Maximum raus. Ich habe das Gerät letztendlich nur aus zwei Gründen zurückgeschickt, die man vor dem Kauf wissen sollte: 1. Zu wenig Einstellungen im Backend: Das Router-Menü bietet leider viel zu wenige Informationen und Optionen. Wer fortgeschrittene Funktionen wie ein manuelles "Band Lock" oder "Cell Lock" sucht, um sich auf einen bestimmten Mast festzulegen, sucht hier vergeblich. 2. Unpraktisches Design der Anschlüsse: Die Ports auf der Rückseite sind ziemlich unglücklich platziert. Wenn man starre oder steife Ethernet-Kabel verwendet, kommt man nur schwer heran. Man muss die Kabel extrem umknicken, damit sie passen, was auf Dauer nicht optimal gelöst ist. Fazit: Wer einen unkomplizierten Router für das B20-Problem mit Außenantenne auf dem Dorf sucht, bekommt hier eine super Lösung. Genau wegen dieser einzigartigen Problemlösung vergebe ich auch 4 Sterne. Wenn ich davon allerdings absehe und rein das magere Backend sowie die unpraktischen Anschlüsse bewerte, würde der Router von mir nur 3 Sterne bekommen.

Ho aperto la scatola, ma l'imballo interno non è come deve essere un prodotto nuovo. Ci sono tutte le parti, antenne alimentatore e relativo router senza la copertura pvc, pvc messo tutto sotto la parte del cartone, l'alimentatore con il cavo senza fascetta, dispersa nella scatola. Insomma sembra proprio un prodotto già usato. Eseguirò il reso.

This is an overpriced product. For this money, you cannot even have DHCP reservation. I needed a custom firmware to get 4G/5G working more than 3 days in a row (Orange in France, nothing fancy). Now it still fails every 20 days or so. Not a single update since I bought it. Even the button to check for update is not working. Wifi is really bad. I had to buy CPL to get decent bandwitdh. Else it was dropping to 0 from time to time. Tested with 2 Macs, even a 2021 M1 pro max. Does not worth money at all. A shame for a brand like D-link.

Tre stelle perché riscontro un problema, Con la sim 5G di WINDTRE va benissimo, aggrega 3 bande e raggiunge una velocità in download non oltre 200 Mbps, il problema è che si disconnette dalla rete 5G 2 o 3 volte in una giornata e questo è un grosso problema perché non si riconnette in automatico, per ripristinare il servizio si deve spegnere e riaccendere, oppure entrare nel pagina web e riconnetterlo manualmente, proverò ancora varie impostazioni e se non risolvo il problema dovrò restituirlo. Aggiornerò la recensione. Nonostante ulteriori varie prove di impostazione il problema della disconnessione dalla rete 5g non si è risolto quindi l’ho restituito.
