Fantastic Book.
Great information and is good for beginners learning about the hermetic traditions. Easy to listen to and easy to follow and understand. I could listen to it again and again as its so intriguing.

It's a great book, and a much cheaper alternative to the hardback. However, the images of the older texts are not at all legible. Pretty, just not legible. In any case, it's a great book to quickly learn about all kinds of ancient beliefs and organizations.

Meh...
I realize that the sheer amount of information in this book is impressive, but to me, it's more of a reference book than something you'd actually enjoy reading. Think of the old fashioned encyclopedias. Most people don't sit and read them cover to cover. They look up what they need info on. That's the kind of book this is. The writing is very dry and since it was written roughly a hundred years ago, the style of writing is a bit outdated and overly wordy. The diagrams are so tiny you can't make out the details, even with a magnifying glass. So those are pretty useless. There is no Table of Contents but there is an index. I bought the paperback version, and I mention this because Amazon lumped together the reviews for every version/edition they sell, so I want to be clear about that. I went to other websites to try to get one of the better editions but those go for about 80 bucks. Not in my bugdet. So I gave it three stars for the impressive content, but it's not reader friendly and the illustrations are mostly indecipherable. I'll keep it as a reference book but that's about it.

5 stars to MPH, 0 stars to the publisher
It is exceedingly distracting to muddle through the huge amount of misspellings and grammatical errors. The content of the book is wonderful, the printing of the book is terrible. Throughout the entire book Hermes is spelled Hemes, sentences. break off unexpectedly and have bizarre: punctuation mistakes. Obviously never proofread. If this is your introduction to MPH seek another edition, this one is hard to follow and may even be misleading to a newcomer.

"Today's" publisher....
Great book. Horrible publishing choices! The last 3 chapters and end matter (conclusion, bibliography, and index) from the original book are fully chopped from this edition of the book, with no explanation for it. Most of the illustrations and diagrams were omitted as well. The original table of contents has been disappointingly abbreviated. The one star is for the paper quality, which is decent, and choice of type face, which is readable, albeit serif. I bought another copy, the "reader's edition" published by Penguin, which retains all the original stuff. It is my clean reference copy now, and this, the cruddy "Wildside" edition I've made into a wild mark-up coffee/margarita stain, devil-may-care copy. Skip right to Penguin's is my recommendation.
