So it is really flat ?** A: It's flatter than a concrete paver, but not as flat as a quality name brand (Starrett / Mitutoyo / StandRidge) granite surface plate. I would bet money these Chinese sourced granite plates are no where near meeting actual "Grade A" specifications for flatness in the USA. (JMHO) I would not trust one to be my only master reference for scraping machine surfaces / ways / dovetails. I only use my HHIP plate for lapping small parts. I do all my metrology work on a Starrett Crystal Pink granite plate. **Q: Are the sides of the surface plate square to the top?** A: They are not made to a specific tolerance on the sides.
