It now DOES work with TrueNAS
I bought this for a port multiplier in a home media server running TrueNas. It was only after I installed it that I found out it does not work with this OS. I fully accept the responsibility since a five minute google search told me this and I should have done that before buying it. I still knocked down the stability rating as a warning to other buyers since it does not work with every OS. I have held on to it as it may come in use in the future, as it did work just fine in a Windows 10 PC. EDIT: TrueNAS has changed to the point where this multiplier does work just fine with it. I built a media server for my brother in law this year (2024) and tried this multiplier again to see and TrueNAS recognized it without any issue.

Works well for basic TrueNAS/FreeNAS user.
Truenas Core 12 home user. It worked exactly as advertised. I needed to move a 6-disk OpenZFS pool onto a motherboard without six slots on the board. Followed the basic instructions and I was set. It's been in use for a few weeks now with no issues of any kind.

Works Great. Plug in and go Ubuntu Linux
Zero issues Ubuntu Linux. Might seem to struggle the first couple times you boot up with it but then it's all smooth sailing.

Works perfectly using only 4 ports. 5 or 6 is a problem
I bought this when I actually needed 4 additional SATA ports (the machine is a file serve and has 30+ TB of storage on in spread over many drives). Initially I set it up using only the 4 ports I needed. However like the literary character who [wasn't raised but] "just grew," over time I had to use more than 4 When I shut down, connected the 5th drive, and then rebooted ports 2-5 worked by the drive on the first port wasn't seen. This worried me and I shut down, disconnected drive 5, and rebooted. Voila! Drives 1-4 showed up perfectly. I tried this card with several different hard disks on port 5, and all of them had the same effect: the drive on port 1 simply wasn't seen. So I tried moving the 5th drive to the 6th port on the card and the results were the same. I finally found that I COULD put an SSD on port 5 or 6, and everything worked just fine. (I also tried multiple, different drives as that 5th drive and the results were always the same: if drive #5 was an SSD, there were no problems. However if drive 5 was a "normal" (mechanical) drive then the results were same. Fortunately I did have a 2 SSDs on this machine and i rearranged connections so that one of them was on port 5. I tried several different configurations but was never able to get 6 drives working on this card, so I gave up. I will neither recommend this card nor warn you away from it. But UNLESS I GOT A LEMON, if you need all 6 ports this card may not work well for you.

A six-port SATA controller... add six drives for centralised storage...
I ordered this to make it easy to add six drives to my Linux server for network file storage. It seems well-built: no after-manufacture corrections, clean traces, and all cables included. It is based on an ASMedia SATA controller and multiplexer chipset covered with a heatsink, and in Linux and some UNIXes you will need driver packages or even recompile the kernel. All ports are on the end of the card. While it is not the newest chipset nor the fastest, it does what it is supposed to do and it is reasonably priced. I am rating it four stars... as always your mileage and preferences may vary...

My previous SATA card stopped working due to Windows 11 not accepting communication with the card. The device manager indicates the drives are present but the drivers are 'not correct'. Works with Ubuntu 20.4. If you have one of these installed Do not upgrade to windows 11.
