Each compass was inside of a bubble wrap bag, inside of a plain cardboard box. The nine boxes were grouped together in a plastic bag to be sold as a set. This made them perfect to give as an individual gifts. I was concerned about the accuracy after reading some of the other reviews. So, I unpacked them and spread them out on the floor. I was disappointed to see that the needles pointed in various directions. But, I remembered reading in the product information that the compass could be affected by proximity to magnets (other compasses are magnets), electronic devices, or iron and steel items. Whereas, they were stored/shipped in close proximity to one another, I decided this should be expected. I then allowed them to “normalize” by increasing the distance between the needles to 10 inches (25 cm) and waited a few minutes while I ate my dinner. Upon returning I found that all of the compass needles were pointing in the same direction. I then compared that to the compass app on my iPhone. I found all were pointing to the same direction. I could not be any happier. I learned a lesson that I will share with my youth group. I foresee fun times ahead!

I got these for my Wolf Cub Scouts to do an adventure. They're not a Cadillac compass, but they all pointed north and worked well to teach the kids compass navigation basics.

4 out of the 9 didn't work at all, 2 pointed north, and the other 3 pointed in a "northerly" direction. Additionally, the needles are very slow compared to other compasses and they have to be on a perfectly flat surface to work. The compass materials are nice, and it has a nice finish, but this is all for naught since most of the compasses don't do the very primary thing a compass is supposed to do: Point to North!

I have had to test each of these to make sure they actually point to magnetic north. I have found about 75% work and the rest are toys only.
