It does not need to be emptied. **Q: Up to what distance can this be placed from the base station?** A: They claim up to 100 meters. **Q: Has anyone bought this recently, and is the data history functionality improved? How much history do you get to keep?** A: We bought ours at Christmas and it appears that it has kept data since the installation; you can view data by day/week/month/year. I can't speak to whether this is better than a previous software & display iteration.
