Excellent detailed build
Detailed instructions, there are a few pieces that are tricky to identify. Solid build, pieces fit tight. Detail is amazing. Very sturdy. Some say the wings gall off easily, I did not experience that and I extended and folded the wings numerous times. Excellent build!

I've waited 35 years for this building toy! TOTALLY WORTH IT!
Wow. OK. I might be a little biased here, but when I saw Top Gun as a kid, I fell in love with the F-14 Tomcat. I was 7 and totally into LEGO and I kept asking my parents, when would I ever get a F-14 Toy??? Sure there were the Force One Die Cast models by Ertl, but I loved LEGO and I really wanted a buildable version. To my dismay, it never materialized...Flash forward ~35 years to present day and we now have the COBI F-14 Tomcat building set. I still love building block toys, which I now share that passion with my 7 yr old son, and when I saw the F/A-18 Super Hornet from Top Gun: Maverick get released, I knew it was only a matter of time before the Tomcat came out. With the European Pound conversion to USD, Amazon's price was about inline for what COBI was charging for a direct sale, (maybe even a little bit cheaper) so I purchased it.The plastic build quality on the COBI set is very good. The plastic pieces fit very nice and crisp; their machine tooling tolerances are very high and each piece snapped together perfectly with clean edges, unlike many other 3rd party building toys, such as MegaBlok or the knock-off LEPIN kits. The COBI pieces are mint and felt great, with no waxy feeling to them. The build instructions are clear in general, however you have to pay attention as some of their slanted/curve pieces.. Very similar in size but in the instructions it's hard to tell which piece they are referring to (flat sloped or slight radius curved, for same 2x1 length, etc) The majority of this kit is a light grey plastic so pay attention to the instruction arrows that they have denoting which brick on the piece for alignment purposes. My son and I took approximately 4 hours to build this (going slow) and it was time well spent. The kit comes with 6 molded missiles, (4 not-really-AIM-54s, and 2 AIM-120s). It comes with two little cylinders for the IRST pod for the chin, and the way COBI designed the engines are pretty cool. The landing gear design seems weak, the weight of the model when on the wheels will make the rear landing gear camber out. There is a tailhook, but no signature F-14 airbrake or dual external fuel tanks, sad face emoji :(. The swept wings are neat- however they are not geared so each wing moves independently. The model also has fully movable rear horizontal flaperons, which are attached via ball joint. Vertical stabs are molded, as well as the nose cone and front fuselage, which differs a lot from what a traditional LEGO build philosophy that try to use bricks to create the shape, but in this case, it's a good mix of the shape they're aiming for and practical use of plates. My favorite part of this kit is the dual jet engine intake design with the canted angles (just like the real aircraft) and once its put together and the top plates put on, I felt the designers did an excellent job on implementation. There's no radar antenna behind the nose cone, just a 2x2 plate to attach the nose to, but the canopy opens to reveal Maverick and Goose mini-figs in all their glory. These two mini-figs are full size, unlike the half sized Mini-Fig you get of in the COBI F/A-18 Super Hornet kit. The prints on the helmets are nice and for Maverick's head you get Tom Cruise's signature smirk, and with Goose, you get Anthony Edwards' signature mustache. The cockpit doesn't have very much in detail other than one control stick for Maverick, so if you want to customize it there is a 2x1 open space in front of Maverick's mini-fig where you can gen up like an up front controller or multi-function display.. The canopy is a single piece with molded in lines, a little bit of black paint or black sticker would have been nice for detailing. Also of note: NO STICKERS! all the details on the jet are printed onto the plastic, which is a pretty nice move. The model set comes with a flight stand if you want the plane off the table, but it's a little weak and the model will wobble from slight bumps.I'm really happy with this purchase and enjoyed building it with my son. If you're a Top Gun fan, an aviation enthusiast, and/or like high-quality building block sets: this is a great set from COBI. Next move will be requesting permission for a fly-by!

Great Build!!!
It was an awesome build. Love the TOP GUN theme. Super enjoyable. No missing pieces, clear instructions, and one of my favorite builds. Love that it’s functional. Would recommend to anyone who loves to build.

Go for flyby Ghost Rider!
As with most Cobi kits this was a joy to build. Flawless parts fit, clear instructions, generally good stability and well done engineering. This one is better than average for a toy brick jet as far as playability for younger builders.I am not a fan of the little rubber hoses that are used for the pilot's air mask feed in any of their kits. They are too stiff which makes them hard to bend into place. I have not gotten brave enough to try heating them into position yet.The display stand makes it look great on a shelf, desktop or in a display case. Keep in mind that you'll need some significant space because she's a big bird when finished!p.s. It would have been cool if the kit had helmets and head and hands for Iceman and Slider, Hollywood and Wolfman. That way you would have a good excuse to buy extra copies of the kit.

MADE FOR TOP GUN FANS, But has some issues...
FIRST, this is a great build for a fan on Top Gun with your eye on the prize at the end, otherwise you will be frustrated on a couple of details in the instruction book, and the probably 80% of bricks that are custom made for this (more about this later)....one example of the instruction details are the small black pieces that fit into the nose for it to attach. Instructions show flush connection, reality: no, so you kinda wonder for a minute if it it will work the way it's supposed to - keep going full throttle. There are a couple spots in there that are a little wonky. SECOND, if you sneeze and the mist falls on this thing while mounted on the stand, you'll think it will snap right off giving how much it wobbles on it. I wish they would have included an extra bracket JIC "little fingers" get too curious. THIRD, if you do touch this thing, the missiles WILL fall off...even the wheels. I may wind up super gluing those wheel axles to the rods, and maybe even the missiles. LASTLY, if you had a million Lego brand bricks, you could not make this thing. There are A TON of custom pieces in here...it's almost like the "engineers" were trying to build this out of Legos and said to themselves, we need a bunch of 1/32 inch thick pieces and some gnarly wedge pieces, and pieces that make normal pieces inverted pieces. No biggie, just not your typical build experience. The end result is more like an actual model than a "Lego" vehicle. Looks great and very accurate. The minifigs are the BEST! VERY COOL! BUT you have to put the figs in the jet AS you build....and dismantle the cockpit section to get them out (for whatever reason). Definitely a display piece, not recommended for actual play or excessive handling- you will make up 4-letter words if you lose pieces that you can't replace with your Lego extras. Grade: A-

Great building set!
Not much to say really, Cobi knocks it out of the park. Great rendition of the F-14 Tomcat, the brick quality is only slightly below Lego, and I will be purchasing more from this brand in the future.

Will shop brand again
Granddaughter loved it. Well built pieces stayed together. Size was as expected. Would buy brand again.

A must-have set for Top Gun fans!
Spectacular build. The set is fantastic. There were one or two building instructions that demanded more attention, but overall was ok. I strongly recommend it for top gun fans!!!!!

Mimo tych mniejszych wad nadal polecam.

Flimsy, playability almost close to zero
-Design. The design is very good and almost as close as to the real fighter jet. The cockpit is much more details than COBI F/18 which I also owned. The only thing I don't like is the top part of the body which connected to the wings. That two large pieces of quarter circle really spoilt the beauty of the whole thing.-Building experience. Extremely poor. I'm not a die-hard Lego fan but I have many sets of Lego including some high-end Technic sets, coming from this, this COBI set is the worst building experience I ever had with bricks. Some instructions don't make any sense, it could have been very straight forward and much easier but COBI guy chose to spice up the experience, make it seems a bit more complicated than it should be. If it stops right there that is fine with me but it is not! Some instructions make it too flimsy to build. The other bad thing is the wings. It is extremely flimsy as well. I could tell even that when I was at step 50-70th. Even while trying to add on another brick, other parts will fall off. And that happened many many times. Cockpit, basically no latch or mechanism to securely close the cockpit. I used masking tape. Yep, you read this correctly.-Playability. Because of the build, playability basically zero. You wouldn't want to lift up and start to play with it. Play it at your own risk. Very likely you are going to pick up all the loose piece and start to rebuild it.Highly not recommended, unless you have no intention to play it, the only thing you want is to display it and you can live with the two ugly quarter circle pieces on its top.

Fantastic kit
Beautiful model, my 8 year old is a fan of cobi tanks but this is our first aircraft and we want more! The finished model has a real likeness to the actual aircraft and can be mistaken for a plastic kit rather than brick built model. It’s a good size too. The quality of the kit is par with Legoand the details like adjustable wing sweep and moving wing surfaces make it fun too. Trouble is I don’t want him to play with it!Only some minor niggles are that the stand is a bit wobbly with the weight of the model, the nose cone comes off a bit too easily, and I wish the wing sweep mechanism connected them both together rather than individually. My son wanted the nose gear to be retractable. All in all a really nice model which impressed us greatly.
