You have no choice but to submit your system to the God Emperor.If you are looking at this game because you enjoy the story law behind Warhammer 40K, you like Space Marines or you just enjoy fun games with shooting then buy this you will not be disappointed, although equally probably not over the moor either.Although the story here is quite short (approximately 5 hours end to end) and no deeper then the original Dawn of War. This is my only real gripe that so much more could have been done with it, and maybe more choice in the characters development.The story although short still acts as a competent bridging arc to lead you through the visually stunning arenas and boy is this game stunning. The Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Orcs, Chaos Marines, and Demons all look like their model bretherin. The weapons all sound as I would hope and watching as Orc skulls explode from bolter rounds to the head is all exhilarating to play. The landscapes are a general grey mix, but do so much with their tiny colour pallet.While playing you will always know which way to go as the action is fairly liner, but you are continually besieged by things to kill that you will not have to time to notice the liner path you walk.My fond memories from this game come from all the moment when playing where I actually felt would feel like for all those small models when a group of 5 Space Marines meets the horde of 20 opponents. They may well have the better stats, but that counts for nothing when you have little time or space to move. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Could have been so much more... *by K***K on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 19, 2012* Fun game if you're into the Games Workshop scene like I am. You really do feel like a tough as nails space marine during the campaign. Where it really falls down though is the multiplayer. Biggest problem is that there are no dedicated servers and the multiplayer is done by Peer to Peer instead of dedicated servers. The *constantly* pauses mid game with a message "Migrating Host" as people leave or join with better connections to support the game. This not only really destroys the flow of the game, but leads to constantly swinging wildly from good ping to lag so bad that there are people warping around the place.The whole game is one big console port, and it's very evident in the menu system. I bought the DLC game modes and it's not clear as to what game mode you're actually using. Not that it really matters anyhow, as in my experience to date, people only play the vanilla version of it. With only 3-4 maps in the vanilla version, things do become repetitive in a hurry.Despite these grievances, I do enjoy the multiplayer when the lag isn't too bad. But unless you're a fan of 40K then I'd save your money for an other game or like Space Marine 2. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Intense, 40k themed hack & slash *by K***Y on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 11, 2014* Playing this as a 3rd person shooter is missing the fun of this game. You can leap and dodge very frequently, and the melee kills are extremely satisfying to pull off.The lore manages to effectively vilify your foes such that, even as gratuitous as they are, your character's methods feel justified and appropriate.The story is not the most polished, and the pacing is occasionally flawed, but the core combat is so much fun that just being given more enemies to fight against is enjoyable. The enemy types and number of enemies have a good level of variation in the game, with a few well-placed boss battles (arguably other than the last).My key advice: play the demo.
