Mrs. Dalloway: A Norton Critical Edition (Norton Critical Editions)

Rich Folks Have First World Problems
This is written so well. The prose crackles, the stream-of-consciousness does not intrude or draw attention away from the story (unlike some modern novels I might mention), the sorrows of Mrs. D. and Miss Kilman are believable and feelable. This is another one of those "rich people giving a dinner party" stories that seem so well-beloved of the Moderns, but it is so beautifully drawn it's forgivable.

Outstanding Edition
I have long enjoyed Norton Critical Editions, and this is no exception. It is a well-researched, up-to-date contribution to Woolf studies and serves not only as a critical introduction to Mrs. Dalloway for students but also as a scholarly edition for audiences more familiar with the novel. After reading and studying it, the reader's understanding of this work and its author will be greatly enhanced. I recommend it highly.

A Definitive Edition
W.W. Norton has come through once again with Woolf's tour de force. This volume contains critical essays as well as the original text. Well done.

For students
This is one of my favorite novels. This is an annotated version with a lot of extra stuff. An adult reader who seeks out this book will probably find the notes mostly superfluous. It might be good for an undergraduate who is studying this book for a class, especially if they're unfamiliar with this historical period, or if they want to place the work in its literary context. But by far the most important thing is to enjoy the use of language in this wonderful book.

Excellent edition
Not only is this an excellent critical text, but the text is also accompanied with copious resources for deeper study - historical, geographical, political and literary contexts, as well as letters and diary entries. By far the best single volume resource for getting to grips with the novels literary brilliance and its contemporary significance. I cannot recommend this highly enough.
