I found the idea of never having to charge my Kindle fantastic.
The cover is a little heavy compared to the weight of the Kindle but then I got to think that it basely is a battery that I am holding in my hand. The cover is a hard shell as the back and leader with the solar cells as a front. The cover protects the Kindle very well and you do not need to worry that the Kindle might fall out of the cover. It will not. On the other hand it can be a little difficult to get the Kindle out of the cover if you might want to use it without. The build in light is an absolute bonus as it falls correct to make the screen very readable. So did I get my wish fulfilled? Yes, I did. When I worked out how to make the cover charge, the instruction was almost not there. Another thing worth mentioning is the service. Delivery was fast and they even contacted me by email to make sure that it was the correct cover for my Kindle. That is good service. There is a negative twist to the positive and that have nothing to do with the product but with the customs I had to pay. I am an EU citizens and the cover is shipped from outside of EU. At delivery I was asked to pay about a fourth again in customs alone, Amazon refunded part of the amount but it was an expensive click by my mouse. So a good advice, do you homework and look into that matter before you click the bottom.I have grown to love the cover despite of the weight, the problem with getting started and the customs. Would I click the bottom again, yes I probably would. My rating is based on the product alone, so I disregarded the customs issue as I think the product deserves that.

Not sure if it's charging… Otherwise, it's OK
Solar power - how "of the moment" is that? My wife is an avid reader (100 books on her Kindle in the past 11 months) and she loves her Kindle. Occasionally, she will read in bed so the built in light provides enough illumination for her still young eyes. To protect her little reading tool, I decided to get her a nice case. The case fits perfectly and is holding up nicely. However, I put an electric meter on the charging points to see if it was cranking out any "juice". In relatively bright light, the meter reading was pitifully low - small fractions of a volt. And that was in direct sun. Unless you sit it in the south-facing window (which I have tried) I doubt that much charging is happening. My humble suggestion, skip the charging cover and buy the cheaper model. Unless you live in a house with a ton of south-facing windows and you remember to sit it in direct sunlight whenever you are not reading, you ain't getting much solar help...

Functional *and* pretty
I'd been looking for this item as soon as I heard about the SolarKindle for the Kindle 4 (non-touch). As soon as it showed up on Amazon I placed my order. It arrived in due time, being one of the first shipments directly from the manufacturer in Taiwan. The included instructions were simple: Go grab the PDF from their website. Those instructions, formatted nicely for the Kindle, showed how to install the device in the cover, how to charge it, and information about the indicator lights. Guessing that English is not this company's first language, but the instructions were well written and easy to understand.I charged everything up via the computer the first time, which was in late April. I have not plugged either device in since - I put the cover in a sunlit window in the morning and retrieve it at night, and if the Kindle is low enough I trigger the cover's internal battery to charge the Kindle for an hour. It doesn't charge while I'm in my office at work, however my window is North facing and doesn't get direct sunlight so that's to be expected. The Kindle fits snugly in the case and doesn't easily pop out - only once when I had everything propped up stupidly to catch more sunlight and the wind knocked it to the floor did the device come free, and the case protected it all the way to bouncing off the concrete below. A couple battle scars, but both devices lived to tell the tale - so not only will it charge up nicely but protects very well too!The light is quite bright, and I've seen reviews of their other devices that some think it's almost too bright. I do make sure not to angle the Kindle away from me while reading since the light would shine directly into my face, but that would be an uncomfortable reading angle anyway. The LED is bright enough to shine down the entire surface of the Kindle, and doesn't feel like it leaves a "hot spot" near the top like some lights do. There's a slight shadow where the top status bar is when you're in the menus, which could make it hard to see your WiFi status or the status messages, but it's not horrible just slightly difficult. The added heft of the case does make the device a bit heavier, which initially gave me pause since I'd used the Kindle without any case for months already, but I've become used to it and not bothered by it at all. Still very comfortable to lay down or sit holding the device one handed. One other review suggested a swivel mechanism so that the solar panel could face out while you've got the cover flipped open for reading. I accomplish this when I can by turning so the sun is to my left and just holding the cover open as if reading a book. But even if I can't charge it all the time, I've found with 1-3 hours of reading per night I still haven't drained everything to the point I needed to plug it in, the solar panel is keeping up.All in all, I love this cover. It does everything as advertised and works very well. If I ever need another case, I'll get another one of these in a heartbeat. Well worth the cost. Will you recover the difference between the normal and solar cover by saving on recharging by plugging in? Well, you could do the math and figure that out, but the fact that I don't *have* to plug it in is worth it to me - I can recharge by setting the Kindle on the dashboard while driving to work, and don't have to deal with cables and adapters. That is worth the extra expense to me.

Solar Charger stopped working on 2 units now
Love the case and the light is fantastic, but I was really enamored of having a solar charger. I bought one of the first units that came out but within a few months, the solar charging function stopped working. I contacted the company and they replaced it. It is a year later, and the solar charging function has ceased working on the second unit. I am very disappointed. The case can still be charged by plugging it in, but if that was all I wanted I would not have bought this case in the first place.

Good lighted cover, but pack your charger
Overall I am happy with the cover. It looks and feels good. The Kindle fits securely and is well protected. The light is bright enough. The backup battery almost doubles the useable life of the device.BUT don't buy it for the solar feature. It charges too slow to be practical. An afternoon in a sunny window does almost nothing. There are cheaper lighted covers without the solar feature that would probably be just as good

Works only in direct sunlight
We don't have direct sunlight flowing through our windows, but it appears that is what is necessary for this to charge. Outside in the direct light of the sun, the case begins to charge, but I have been unable to get it to charge indoors using indirect sunlight or lamp light. I will be returning this item.

SolarFocus Cover for Kindle
The solar charge works just as stated. The reading light is a very nice feature. The only annoyance is the very tiny power button and a little heavy but not big issue.
