The Ranger Xtreme series was built for the ambitious hunter and knows few limits when it comes to use. 5 Ferngläser im Vergleich, meine „Hitparade“ in Stichworten, die Angaben über „gut“ oder „schlecht“ sind alle relativ zueinander. Bis auf das Nikon Monarch fanden wir die übrigen vier gut brauchbar. Mein Hintergrund: Laie, leichte Kurzsichtigkeit, über 50 Jahre alt (in meinem Alter soll die Pupille nicht mehr ganz so groß werden können, daher lohnt angeblich der Mehrpreis (und Mehrgewicht!) eines lichtstärkeren 8x56er Glases nicht so recht. Hier soll das Austrittsbild größer sein, was aber mit „alter“ Pupille nicht voll nutzbar sein soll. • Platz 1: Minox BL 8x42: geile Farben!! Superscharfes Bild! Einen Abfall der Schärfe konnte ich erst im letzten Viertel des Radius feststellen, Farbsäume habe ich gar keine festgestellt. – Ich habe erst einmal im Leben durch ein Zeiss-Spektiv schauen dürfen. Nur dort war ein vergleichbares Bild. Es schien mir einen Tick weniger lichtstark zu sein als das Ranger, aber die Abbildung war sonst viiiel schöner. Die Tasche ist recht klein, lässt sich an einem Gürtel befestigen, nicht aber umhängen (wie bei Steiner), was etwas schade ist. Minox gibt bei Registrierung 30 Jahre Garantie. – Bei solch einer Anschaffung ist das von Belang. Es wäre nicht die erste Gummiarmierung, die porös wird. Preislich auf Platz 2 mit 389 Euro. • Platz 2: Steiner Ranger extreme 8x42: ist tatsächlich deutlich besser in der Schärfe als die Skyhawk-Reihe, und das Bild ist bei Dämmerung heller. Nur im Vergleich mit dem Minox wurde ein minimaler „Grauschleier“ sichtbar. Schön sind die seitlichen Überstände der Gummimuscheln, welche Licht vom Auge fernhalten soll wie Scheuklappen. Das funktioniert gut, kleines „aber“: Wenn man die Abstandhalter herauszieht und die Gummimuscheln so einstellt, dass die Überstände korrekt seitlich positioniert sind, dann drehen die Überstände beim Hereindrehen der Abstandhalter um eine Vierteldrehung. Dadurch steht dann einer oben, einer unten. Das wäre an sich egal, nur passt dann die Abdeckung für die Okulare nicht mehr sauber auf die Okulare. Man kann die Okulare aber ausgefahren belassen, denn die Tasche ist sehr groß. – Leider nur 10 Jahre Garantie, obwohl mit 448 Euro am teuersten in meinem Vergleich. • Platz 3: Steiner Skyhawk 4.0, 8x42: hat in 2019 die besten Abbildungseigenschaften in Stiftung Warentest, liefert auch ein gutes Bild, jedoch war der Abstand zum Ranger extreme deutlich: Skyhawk hat die blasseren Farben und ist weniger scharf. Angeblich werden die PAK-verseuchten Nackengurte nicht mehr ausgeliefert – hm, muss man entweder glauben oder ein „Geschirr“ kaufen, womit man das Glas besser tragen kann, wenn man längere Zeit beobachten will. Günstig im Sonderangebot bei 339 Euro, trotzdem nicht behalten. • Platz 4: Steiner Skyhawk 4.0, 10x42: Es gilt das für das Drittplazierte. Zudem schaffe ich es nicht, dieses 10-fach-Glas ruhig genug zu halten, dass das Bild nicht ständig wackelt. Wer Biathlon betreibt, also ruhige Hände hat, sollte ein 10-fach-Glas in Betracht ziehen. War recht günstig im Angebot für 299 Euro. Die 90 Euro Mehrpreis für das Minox sind es mir dennoch wert gewesen. • Platz 5: Nikon Monarch 5, 8x42: blasse Farben, nicht richtig scharf, Abdeckung der Okulare hält nicht (peinlich für ein Markenglas). War das günstigste Glas mit 280 Euro, aber für diesen Preis ist die Abbildung einfach zu schlecht.
